On 1 July 2008 an 84-year-old woman was killed crossing this slip road to Sheffield Parkway in Handsworth. 17 years later it is still just as dangerous. But now it has some vital GOOD LUCK signs 🤞

Sheffield’s ring road is built for deadly speed. In 2013 19 year-old Cian Pace was killed when the car he was in crashed near Netherthorpe Primary School. In 14 years 7 people have lost their lives on the 40mph sections of the ring road. Around 85 more have been seriously injured.

In May 2018 Naveed Fazal was killed when he apparently lost control of his car at “over 60mph” on Abbeydale Road South. The coroner couldn’t see how speed was a factor. But did ask SCC to ensure the “speed limit is within safe levels.” Years later the road continues to enable lethal speed.

At 1:45pm on Monday 20th Sept 2021 a 42-year-old man was crossing Prospect Road when he was hit and killed by a man driving a car. In 2008 on Myrtle Road, 150m down, a 52-year-old man was also killed while crossing. When SCC brought in a 20mph limit in this area these roads were excluded.

On 19 October 2015, 24-year-old architecture student Robert Henry was cycling up Crookes Valley Road when he was hit and killed by the driver of a van. Last week SCC agreed a "safety scheme" here. The road will continue to have no protected cycle space, and will keep its lethal 30mph speed limit.

In 2019, 85 year-old June Buckley was crossing Hollinsend Road and was hit with a car. She later died of her injuries. The coroner found the road was unsafe and instructed SCC improve it. SCC added some barrier. Today it still has drivers turning from a 40mph road and no pedestrian phase.

On 9 March 2019 Paul Brummett, 61, was crossing the Prince of Wales Road dual carriageway where there was no suitable crossing and was hit with a car. He later died of his injuries. An SCC analysis of the city's most dangerous locations said it "would be difficult/expensive to treat".

Glad to see another School Street! 😍 And hopefully these kids can also be put first so they can cross 40mph dual carriageways, and 30mph roads by their school which have no crossings where there have been multiple serious injuries of children getting to/from school. Until then, good luck kids! 🤞🤞🤞
