Been playing around with a little esp32 cam that automatically publishes to grain too and trying to get it as small as possible, pretty bad camera but im calling that part of the charm 😅

(i mean you'd obvs never do it like that with those numbers, youd probably do a `getRepoStatus` for all repos you got and that should just add a few seconds, but probably be slower than hubble then)

also note that that only works when getting `commits` only, but then you actually get records from accounts that have been deleted and you dont know about it. if you dont want that, jetstream v2 with markers: `tech.waow.ken.profile`: ~1 hour and ~4.6 GB `app.lexidraw.scene`: ~1.5 hours and ~9 GB

`app.lexidraw.scene`: listRecords: 4.5s (50 kB) jetstream v2: 12.6s (22 MB) hubble: 15.7s (114 MB) (for both collections i got all repos for all tested methods, except hubble had one less `tech.waow.ken.profile` repo for some reason)

yeah well, i suppose not *every* method is faster than jetstream :D (but there is always a way faster method) did give doing those two collections using listReposByCollection and listRecords a try: `tech.waow.ken.profile`: listRecords: 3.9s (10kB) jetstream v2: 5.3s (7.1 MB) hubble: 7s (47 MB)

hubble actually gets a lot closer, but for most of what i tested (backfilling all record of a few collections from all accounts), its still a lot slower than just doing listRecords (though tbf downloading whole repos is a big overhead here, hubble is actually way faster than most PDSes)

im excited in theory too, id love it if i could spin up an in-browser appview and not have to manage a backend at all sadly doesnt seem like its actually optimized for that, its actually a lot slower than everything i measured it against in lots of different scenarios :P

ah and car download is even faster: 1-2 seconds (2.6 MB over the wire) also tested hubble and thats even faster 200-300 ms for your whole repo (1.3 MB over the wire with star-lite + zstd) 40x slower than jetstream v2 :P

did a quick benchmark, takes 2-3 seconds to load all semble records from your PDS directly (so still 5x or so faster than jetstream v2)

Hmm yeah thats a slightly different use case, but even here wouldnt a direct car download or just a few listRecord calls (depending on % of records you needs vs all records in a repo) be faster usually? Like im pretty sure you can get all your semble records in way less than 12 seconds, no?
