Irish cinema experience continues, finally saw this one! I think I prefer Oddity due to the narrower focus, but this one might be technically better... well, it's a nice puzzle to unpack! @darrenmooney.bsky.social

Watching: The Brood 1979. This feels like when Cronenberg really came into his own. Shivers was fun, but didn't stick the landing.

Xtro 1983. Sci-fi with some boddy horror and Italian influences of all things. Wonderful revisit with the director's cut

Sure thing, happy to talk anything horror. Only 1 film per year for 100 years means I have to miss films I love, many of them. The first film is out in 1971 which happens to be the same year as arguably the best horror film from Australia. Wake in Fright starring Donald Pleasance.

"The mystic swims while the psychotic drowns. I'm swimming, you're drowning". Still happy to say this is in my top ten films of all time. Masterpiece cinema. Cinemetography top notch, the soundtrack, performances. Highest possible recommendation.

@darrenmooney.bsky.social Finally watched this last week. Beautiful small scale picture, genuinely made me jump. Masked man and a tent. Only criticism is that the 'big moment' is the 'creature' going to town at the end would have been super powerful if directed towards a sympathetic character. 4/5

It's all @darrenmooney.bsky.social 's fault. If you don't know what I mean, check out the Rewind podcast on @secondwindgroup.com , just one of many gem recommendations that are hurting my bank account
