Desktop Explorers (2026) Neat puzzles, great atmosphere! Starts a bit slow, but really picks up by Act 2 and leads into a great finale. I wish it involved just a tiny bit more of actually digging into the personal files of the previous users, but the story was compelling regardless!

The Incident at Galley House (2026) Oh this one is very fun, the Clues vibes are excellent It scratches the mystery itch that roottrees couldnt provide due to its subject matter/format The deductions are pretty straightforward but the plot expanding in scope is riveting

The Mermaid Mask (2026) PEAK PEAK PEAK Probably some of the most gorgeous presentation in a detective game I've seen, an incredible cast, and a very compelling case And as promised, the finale feels much more appropriately climactic compared to Tangle Tower puzzles are also so .. tactile? its good!

Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) Actually the closest thing we got to a AAA visual novel? /s jokes aside i was pleasantly surprised by how much playtime is taken by character dialogues story is pretty compelling, keanu never ceases to be funny, and the build tree has enough meat to go around

Outer Wilds (2019) :) It's fun! Just a very solidly and tightly designed game. I think i actually enjoyed the spaceship driving more than most people. Still dont get why this game in particular got such a go-in-blind word-to-mouth.

Civ 7 (2025, Test of Time Update) I was a civ 7 truther since release but this update did a tremendous job fixing my main gripes with it (UI and lack of sandboxiness) Was scared they would compromise away from the original vision but nope it's still there and more nuanced than ever

Paralives Early Access (2026) Leaning hard into the "cozy indie" vibes to give the game its own voice was a shrewd choice. The creation tools are already solid. The perks and character progression makes me wish for more autonomous behaviors. Otherwise litterally the sims 3, but indie! (affectionate)

Speaking of which... 17776 (2017) FINALLY managed to read it all, and yeah it slaps. I do think the opening is its strongest part ofc but the whole thing has this unique aura of optimistic faith in humanity, twined with absurdism, that is still rare to find. reminds me of the good ol blaseball days

Titanium Court (2026) Idk who had this idea of "court of feys, but they're all theatre kids turned business major and also are palette-limited pixel art stock photos" but it's a banger My first match-3 game if you can believe it, havent finished it yet The closest video game equivalent to 17776

Forbidden Solitaire (2026) Lovely little game; really good feeling gameplay, gnarly visuals, fmv cutscenes (!!!), and just about 5 hours to do a full playthrough, i really enjoyed this i think Other Games(tm) do its narrative better but i did "enjoy" the game studio side of it (too real)

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) I think I watched the DVD exactly once (1) as a kid and didn't retain a single from it, turns out it's just because it's very forgettable!!! (shocker) But every character is very hot and of course whoever animated Eris had a lot of fun (they probably died)

Gorillaz - The Mountain (2026) yeah this one hits. The main themes of both mourning/loss and the fight against authorianism/commodification of art, tie strangely well together to make a very cohesive album - Plastic Beach nostalgics rejoice! Delirium's chorus is a banger

I said this was a video game thread, actually i lied this is a media thread now Mary Shelley - Frankenstein (1818 version) Victor is very easy to make fun of and the Creature has so much more substance and is so much more interesting when it is allowed to be a tiny bit Evil

My personal alt recommendations: If you want cool tactical rpg combat that feels like puzzle in roguelite format, I recommend Into the Breach instead. If you wanna play god and mess with genes to make fucked up pets, Wobbledogs has you covered.

Mewgenics (2026) The trashy Newgrounds humor was outdated 10 years ago and god does it not work when characters have actual dialogue. Gameplay is cool and scratches the Into the Breach itch, it's just too bad the game is desperately trying to be edgy (and miss) the rest of the time

The New Flesh (2025) I LOVE GAMES AS MEDIUM FOR THINGS OTHER THAN GAMES GRAAAH You gotta like the music to fully enjoy this, but I think it can stand on its visuals alone. Wish the setpieces for the bonus songs were more dynamic like the main street, but the game is free so I ain't gonna complain

Skin Deep - 2025 A great snack of a game, everything is bite-sized from the levels to the story to the playtime. Described as the gateway drug to immersive sims and I'm inclined to agree. Best thing is that it actually gives you room to mess up because that's when things get funny!

The Séance of Blake Manor - 2025 More of a detective story than it is a deduction game, but it works for what it wants to be! Kinda finicky with the evidence to progress the story, but otherwise great cast, strong visuals that peak when they commit to the comic book style, very spooky, very my brand
