Fur Affinity meets fundraising goal in less than a week as 3rd party advertisers pressure to remove all "adult" content
On October 2, 2026, a blog was posted to Fur Affinity's Fender journal (for FA announcements), with the long announcement post titled "Support Fur Affinity’s Community Funding", that FA had launched a GoFundMe to help cover costs to keep Fur Affinity running. (with Journal Header reminder of that FA can also be supported via FA+, the FA shop (plushies etc), & Ko-fi). The GoFundMe surpassed their $180K USD goal, to help cover six months of cost, and is now currently at $197,606 raised. Later in the Fur Affinity message it is referred to as "our first annual funding drive." Note: FA will be **offline** for important updates on October 7, 2026 09:00 PM - October 8, 2026 07:00 AM. read more

Remembering the Twitch streaming blue deer Rokkuhato (1988-2026)
Furry video-streamer Rokkuhato, whose fursona was a deer, has passed away at the age of 38. A video titled "Dedicated to Rokkuhato..." (uploaded Oct 4) by CloudFloof (YT username @WuskyMusic) with opening text of video saying "Rokkuhato"/"May 31st, 1988 - September 22nd, 2026"/"Cause of death: Medical Complications...". The video is mostly mini-memorials to other furries who have passed on, but the thumbnail for the video shows a memorial to Rokkuhato. The same memorial show at the start of Cindershadow's video "For Rokkuhato | Gamers Outreach and the People He Left Behind" (uploaded Oct 4) with Cindershadow highlighting the memorial as part of the Furry Family Ofrenda in VRChat. Another article, from DogPatch about the Ofrenda can be found here. read more

Movie review: 'ChaO' (2025)
**ChaO** (trailer) is a 90-minute romantic comedy anime film released in 2025, directed by Yasuhiro Aoki and produced by indie Studio 4°C, who have a very unique filmography. In an alternative future, a journalist gets the chance to interview a guy named Stefan, who's moderately famous. The film is Stefan's story framed as an extended flashback, taking place in his younger days when he'd just begun his career as a mechanical engineer at the biggest ship-building company in Shanghai. By fluke, he encounters Chao, the princess of the kingdom of mer-people, who unexpectedly vows to be with him forever. This turns his future outlook completely upside-down, including a wedding. read more

Movie review: 'Bouchra' (2025)
**Bouchra** (trailer) is a semi-autobiographical lesbian computer-animated art project by Meriem Bennani along with Orian Barki and Ayla Mrabet. Originally about 70 minutes long, it was exhibited as part of an installation in Milan in 2024. Bennani later added more content to make it 82 minutes, screening it at international film festivals until it reached online streaming in September 2026. Bennani is a Moroccan artist in New York City who had been gradually learning animation, a process that sped up during the Covid pandemic with the help of her collaborator Orian Barki. Together they started making a series of eight shorts called 2 Lizards. By the time the pandemic was over and she wanted to try making a film, she hadn't practiced animating humans, so that's why _Bouchra_ has anthropomorphic animals. The character of Bouchra, representing Bennani herself, is a jackal. The setting flips between New York and Morocco, revolving around Bouchra's relationship with her mother, after coming out to her nine years earlier. The film part of the art project was originally dedicated to her, titled **_For Aicha_**. There are two lesbian sex scenes, passionate without being revealing; it's not R-rated. There's almost no conflict, the pace is slow, it's very slice-of-life. I'm not sure if it'll interest most furry fans except as an art-house piece. It's subtitled in English, with spoken dialogue in English, French, and Moroccan Arabic. read more

Furrydelphia Announces 18+ Restriction for 2027
_Thursday night at Furrydephia 2025. (Eberra Wolf/Flayrah)_ Furrydelphia announced last Sunday that the convention will become adults-only starting with next year’s convention. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based convention, first held in 2017, has always allowed minors to attend with additional requirements and restrictions. The move marks the latest time a convention dropped allowing minors to attend, and is a part of a wider trend of closing off the furry fandom’s spaces to young furries. “We see Furrydelphia as a place to explore, grow, learn, and discover without fear,” the announcement said. “Reflecting on how we can best support this goal while remaining a safe space for all attendees, we’ve made the decision to make Furrydelphia an 18+ event. We didn’t make this decision lightly—we understand that Furrydelphia is a meaningful place to people of all ages, and don’t want to exclude anyone.” read more

Movie review: 'Forgotten Island' (2026)
**Forgotten Island** (trailer) is a 108-minute animated fantasy film from DreamWorks, released in September 2026, directed and written by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. Similarly to how Pixar's Turning Red allowed director Domee Shi to work in her Chinese-Canadian heritage, and how KPop Demon Hunters was Maggie Kang's cultural love letter to South Korea, _Forgotten Island_ allowed Januel Mercado to celebrate his Filipino heritage. The story takes place in the Philippines in the 1990s. Two young women, Jo (voiced by singer H.E.R.) and Raissa (actress Liza Soberano) are best friends from childhood who've just finished high school. Jo is irresponsible and chaotic, while Raissa is a physics nerd. Together they share a firey disposition to throw themselves into improvised adventures when their creative impulses take hold. On a fateful night, they find themselves pulled into the alternate, magical world of Nakali, an island inhabited by all sorts of mythological creatures, that Jo's grandmother had also visited in her youth. Befriended by a goofball were-dog named Raww, they're looking for a key that will help them get home. The problem being, they've lost their memories of their first night on the island, and have to figure out what they got up to. The rest of their memories may also be at risk. read more

DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW: 'Buddy' (2026)
"_statistic: the US bureau of missing persons re- ports that in 1968 over 100 thousand people disappeared leaving no solid clues nor trace_ only a space _in the lives of their friends_ " -Ishmael Reed, "Beware: Do Not Read This Poem" Buddy is a horror movie directed by Casper Kelly, making it his first feature-length film. It could be called an entry in the "mascot" subgenre of horror, as the movie features a magical children's television show, _It's Buddy_ , featuring a giant orange unicorn named Buddy, who seems to be played by a man in a plush fursuit (and voiced by Keegan-Michael Key). There is no history of the show online, outside of this movie, but it might occasionally pop up on whatever screen you're viewing, including whatever screen you're viewing this review on. Buddy might even address you directly, and ask for you to give him a high five. Don't do that. read more

A furry market in New York City
_Anthros, a New York City market, on September 12. (Dakota Fluff, courtesy of Anthros)_ On a quiet Saturday, dozens of furries visited Industry City, a multi-block campus in Brooklyn, New York, for a six-hour-long market called Anthros. For several hours on September 12, furries shopped for clothing and handmade crafts inside a space called the Tom Kane Theatre. It was a free and unticketed event, welcoming people to wander in and out and see the rest of Industry City. Right outside of the theater were two long tables. On one, a spool of paper was unwrapped, with an invitation for people to doodle on. Flyers for the event, strangely enough, were spread on the tables, as if Anthros were some other upcoming event. This lobby area was for hanging out, putting your fursuit head down, and socializing. read more

NYC furries baited to go on a 24/7 livestream
Flyers were given out to furries Saturday for a “furry meetup,” which was widely-shared to be bait. (Obtained by Flayrah) New York City furries were warned by local organizers this weekend of being baited to appear on a 24/7 livestream called Fishtank. At the Brooklyn vendor hall Anthros on Saturday, people had been given flyers for a “furry meetup” happening later in the week. The flyers directed those attendees to come to a building in Manhattan’s Chinatown district Thursday evening, adding that “this event will be livestreamed” to “1000+ viewers”. They were distributed by women, according to two people who were handed flyers. One described a short white woman with brown hair. The other recipient noted a different woman with longer dark brown hair. read more

Fursuits banned from Maryland Renaissance Festival
Maryland Renaissance Festival (MRF) has banned fursuits from the festival. On or before June 7, 2026 the following restricted was added to MRF's FAQ (Gate Restrictions > Headwear Restrictions subsection) on their webite: > All headwear must be removable, thematic to the event, and appropriate for a family-friendly venue. Face-covering must be removed upon entering the village gate after which they can be worn as intended. Inappropriate, offensive, and non-thematic headwear will not be permitted through the festival gates. Examples of non-compliant headgear/face coverings include inappropriate face paint, offensive prosthetics, make up or masks intended to frighten, and **fursuits**. City Cast DC reported that "Organizers of the festival— say they instituted the ban because humans who wear animal costumes are ahistoric to the actual renaissance", but as someone pointed out (in the Facebook group MDRF Friends of Faire) animal mumming happened in the Renaissance. With Wikipedia's article about Mummers saying: > "Mummers were bands of men and women from the **medieval to early modern era** who … dressed in fantastic clothes and costumes …. Costumes were varied and might include bears, unicorns, deer … or rams" read more

Why furry convention attendance figures need context
Furry convention attendance figures are frequently treated as simple measures of growth. One convention reports several thousand attendees, another reports tens of thousands, and the figures quickly find their way into rankings, social posts and historical lists. The numbers are useful, but they are not always as interchangeable as they appear and are treated. _Disclosure: The author founded Mello Zone Furry Community, which maintains the convention dataset referenced in this feature. Convention attendance and event-status claims in the dataset are attributed to their cited sources rather than presented as independently verified Mello Zone statistics._ read more

Movie Review: 'Coyote vs. Acme'
"_The coyote is a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry._ " -Mark Twain, Roughing It _"Me just a worthless coyote, but me ain't nobody's fool."_ -John R. Erickson, The Coyote Sacred Hymn and National Anthem The United States of America have been at war with the coyote for about as long as the United States of America has known of the existence of the coyote (latin name _Canis latrans_). During the famous Lewis and Clark expedition, exploring what was then known as part of the Louisiana Purchase, but is now known as Iowa, a "prairie woolf" was encountered by the scientifically minded party. They, as was standard practice for naturalists of the time period, immediately opened fire upon it; it escaped unharmed. So it has more or less gone ever since. The first bounties placed for the killing of coyotes came around the same time English speakers started calling them "coyotes" (the final "e" is sometimes pronounced, sometimes silent, depending on the speaker; both are considered correct) rather than "prairie wolves". Some states still have these bounties today, despite most studies on the subject finding that livestock predation by coyotes, which the bounties are supposed to prevent, does minimal damage to most rancher's bottom lines, while the coyote bounties do minimal damage to the coyote population. If anything, despite being a target for extermination for over two centuries, coyotes have found America under Americans quite nice, having flourished. Virginians Lewis and Clark had to travel all the way to Iowa to shoot at one. If they lived today, they could take pot shots at them in their own backyards. One of the most famous fictional coyotes is Wile E. Coyote, created by animator Chuck Jones and writer Michael Maltese in the 1949 Looney Tunes short "Fast and Furry-ous". He was to star in a movie known as Coyote vs. Acme, to be released in 2023, but it was killed for a tax write-off by the studio after it was completed. However, it's so very hard to kill a coyote. read more

Movie reviews: Three computer animated kid's films from 2022
### Inspector Sun and the Curse of the Black Widow Starting this trio of reviews with the most disappointing one, **Inspector Sun** (trailer) is an 88-minute detective comedy film produced in Spain by The Thinklab, directed by Julio Soto Gurpide and written by Rocco Pucillo. The year is 1934. Anthro-insects exist in secret without humans knowing it. In Shanghai, the insect chief of police fires his incompetent nephew, Inspector Sun, voiced by Ronny Chieng. Boarding a trans-Pacific flight to San Francisco, he's followed by Janey, a wanna-be sidekick. There's no curse in this film; instead it has spiders and two poop jokes in the first 15 minutes. This detective story fails for two main reasons. First, Inspector Sun is an egotistical idiot with no detective or people skills who routinely dismisses important clues. For example, when someone shows him a death threat written with cut-up letters, he says "Collage is not a dangerous hobby." This missing-the-point humor is repeated far too often, making Sun intensely unlikable. read more

French comic reviews: 'Fang' and 'Blacksad Stories'
Fang is a comic published in France, however the writer is an American named Joe Kelly, and the artist is a French-Canadian named Niko Henrichon. Both have occasionally veered into talking animals; Kelly with Bad Dog and Henrichon with Pride of Baghdad. _Fang_ is an ongoing story published by Les Humanoïdes Associés. The first issue, _Chasseuse de démons_ (Demon huntress) appeared in 2021, and the second issue, _À la poursuite d'Aldafaor_ (In pursuit of Aldafaor) came out in 2025. Set in a medieval fantasy setting that combines European and Chinese cultural motifs, the land is occupied by both humans and animal people of various species. Fursona Pins protects the word fursona from being trademarked by non-furry company
On July 18th, 2026 a rejection by the United States Patent and Trademark Office was making its rounds on social media. In it, the office states that the individual could not trademark the word Fursona in relation to their company, with the primary reason being that it was too similar of a trademark to one already created for the company of “Fursona Pins”. The applicant has been trying to register this since November, 13th of 2025. A shared document of this rejection was clearly not the first rejection to registration, but in response to counter arguments made by the applicant to a previous rejection. The three primary arguments were made by the person trying to register Fursona as a trademark for their business: 1. They are not trying to register Fursona Pins, just Fursonas. 2. They are trying to make a robe company not a pin company 3. The word is not related to the commons word of “fursona” used by the furry fandom The USPTO’s response counters each of these arguments and their viability, and in the end sustains its prior rejection of the trademark request. read more

Capital FurCon rescheduled due to overlap with Christian broadcaster conference
McChaffee, the convention chair, said that he was worried about a cultural conflict and a possible appearance from Donald Trump. (Eberra Wolf/Flayrah) Capital FurCon, an upcoming furry convention on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., moved its dates up a weekend due to coinciding with a conservative and Christian broadcaster conference at the same venue, the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, Flayrah has learned. Originally scheduled for February 25–28, 2027, the convention made an announcement earlier this month that it would be moved to February 18–21, one week earlier. The note, made on July 2nd, stated that it was “Due to an error made by our hotel partner”. “This change became necessary due to the Gaylord’s sales team inadvertently double-booking our event space,” it read. The rooms that the furry convention had contracted were not rented out to another event at the same time in a booking mishap, but rather the Gaylord is to be the venue for the National Religious Broadcasters’ 2027 International Christian Media Convention. Though occupying a different area, it partially overlapped with Capital FurCon’s original dates. The ICMC is scheduled for the last Tuesday through Friday in February; Capital FurCon had the last Thursday through Sunday. Last week, the convention made a blog post alluding to this. The “original dates overlapped with an event that was not ideal for both events and our event's attendees.” This was attributed to “a mistake on the Hotel's side.” The event? ICMC 2027, McChaffee, the convention chair, confirmed to Flayrah. read more

Where furries were at for pride this year
Across the world, furries celebrated Pride Month by marching with their local furry communities in pride parades. From Portland, Maine, to Seattle, Washington, furries showed up, donning their fursuits in the summer heat. Some tempted heatstroke wearing their full fursuit. With a fandom that had an explosion of growth during the Covid pandemic, more furries are participating now in local groups than ever before. Most furries openly identify themselves as LGBTQ+ to an overwhelming degree, according to data from Furscience, an organization that does research in and on the furry fandom, with surveys including questions on sex and gender self-identification. One survey from earlier this year asked 869 furries online and at three conventions a slew of questions, including the self-identifications. The results—not yet published but shared with Flayrah—show that 86.3% of furries are, in some form or another, LGBTQ+. In the survey, a mere 14.9% of respondents identified their sexuality as heterosexual, making them a minority in the fandom. Additionally, 73.2% and 9.6% of respondents identified as cisgender men and women, respectively. (The survey allowed for respondents to select multiple options, and participants could have reported, for example, to be both a trans man and a cis man.) At the pride parades this year, even those who are allies participated. This is a list of them in which a furry organization participated in for June 2026, listed alphabetically by city. Organizers were asked about being in the parade, and their responses are included if they responded. Some organizations marched in two parades, and both are listed. Let us know if we’ve missed anything, and we’ll update this article. read more

I Love Furry: Bunker Projects' art exhibit showing the love of the fandom
_Inside of Bunker Projects I Love Furry art exhibit -Photo by Kamen_ As the city of Pittsburgh readied itself to welcome back Anthrocon, a small art gallery on Penn Avenue had viewers asking, “Why do they love furry?” From June 5th to July 19th, nonprofit artist residency and gallery Bunker Projects hosted their second monumental furry art exhibition I LOVE FURRY. The gallery was created by Portland-based artist Tommy Bruce and involved asking furries in the fandom to submit photos, artwork, and stories about what they love about the community. Bruce has been making art about the furry community and furry identity since 2010, and this is the second time his furry artwork has been featured in Bunker projects. Last year, he was featured among 60 other furry artists in an exhibit called “Room Party,” the first ever large-scale group exhibit of contemporary furry art. “Room Party” was featured at Bunker Projects last year from June 6th to July 20th, 2025, also meant to coincide with Anthrocon. read more

Anthrocon took place in Pittsburgh from July 2nd to July 5th with the theme of “Critters, Cryptids, and Curses,” while also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the convention taking place in the steel city. To honor this occasion, Pittsburgh mayor Corey O’Conner came to the organizers of the convention to declare the day “Anthrocon Day.” This was an unexpected gift to the convention, which involved visiting the organizers on July 1st, and the county executive Sara Innamorato congratulating the convention for contributing 169 million dollars into the Pittsburgh economy for the past 20 years. For 20 years Anthrocon has had a special relation with its host city as it is symbiotic: Anthrocon gets to call the city its host while the city of Pittsburgh generates revenue from attendees. read more

FurryMUCK, still going!
Following the unfortunate passing of Tori "Tugrik" Amundson, the server FurryMUCK was running upon needed to be retired. I am very appreciative and grateful that Tugrik's friends and next-of-kin have been keeping the server up and available to this point. Finally, we've migrated FurryMUCK to a new server. In doing so, we've made several key improvements, including using the most recent copy of the underlying server code (Fuzzball v7.2) as well as updated SSL libraries. DNS has been updated so people can still use the known hostname to connect: muck.furrymuck.com, port 8888 for basic access muck.furrymuck.com, port 8899 for secure access This has also meant moving the webserver FurryMUCK maintains to have online information. That is also at https://muck.furrymuck.com. Going forward, status updates about the MUCK will be posted on the new FM-status account. Thank you, for thirty-five years of furry fandom. I hope to keep it going for more.

Anthrocon cancels parade and block party due to continued intense heat
The intense heat forecast for this fourth of July throughout this weekend has caused Anthrocon to announce that the block party and parade in the city on Saturday will be cancelled. > Anthrocon has been closely monitoring the extreme heat and severe weather situation in Pittsburgh forecast for this weekend. Convention leadership has been in contact with emergency services personnel and other entities regarding this situations. > > After careful consideration for the health, safety, and wellbeing of our fursuiters, attendees, and residents of Pittsburgh, Anthrocon has decided to cancel the 2026 Fursuit Parade and Block Party scheduled for 2pm, July 4th. > > We know both Anthrocon attendees and our friends in Pittsburgh look forward to this even every year; but the health and safety of all concerned is our paramount priority. > > Anthrocon attendees should look for announcements of alternative indoor activities in place of the parade this year. We apologize for the necessity of this decision and hope you'll continue to enjoy the events throughout the holiday weekend. Weather Underground reports that for Pittsburgh, Saturday afternoon is expecting to have a temperature of 91F / 32.77C but it will feel like 100F / 37.78C.

Anthrocon kicks off 18th year held in Pittsburgh, mayor pledges 'Anthrocon Day'
Anthrocon’s 18th year being held in Pittsburgh is in full swing, and on Wednesday the Mayor of Pittsburgh commemorated the occasion by proclaiming July 1 as “Anthrocon Day”. The convention started to be held in the city 20 years ago, in 2006, which was the catalyst for the celebration. Since then, Anthrocon has held its annual furry convention around June and July in the city, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 having been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. read more

Capital Furcon's Juneteenth
_Dazai Hyena dances with a woman at Live-K in National Harbor, Maryland, during the first event hosted by the upcoming furry convention Capital FurCon. (Flayrah/Eberra Wolf)_ Late Friday afternoon, a few dozen furries came down to National Harbor, Maryland, for the first in-person event hosted by Capital FurCon, an upcoming 21+ furry convention set to have its inaugural weekend in February. At a karaoke and bar called Live-K, the free, four-hour event was hosted in conjunction with DC Fur Meet, which hosts monthly bar nights in Washington, D.C. The plaza outside Live-K was awash in Juneteenth celebration. Inside, outnumbering casual patrons enjoying a birthday or coming in from the heat, local furries in and out of fursuit drank and danced. Being a karaoke establishment, people could queue songs to sing on the main stage, before the lineup of DJs performed. There were also small side rooms, where people could either stash their bags or sing karaoke in a more secluded space for the whole event. DJs HanIsAlive, Novocanine, and KaiTo performed sets on the main stage through the latter half of the event. The bar apparently gave happy hour pricing, though this reporter found himself being charged almost $17 for an alcoholic slushie. This paled in comparison to the $50 parking fee he found himself having to pay. (He should have parked in a different garage, and should have asked for budget drinks.) read more

Titles being removed from Netflix in late-June 2026
This is an incomplete list of titles that will be removed from Netflix during late-June 2026 (plus one in early July), mostly in Canada and/or in the United States. Unless otherwise noted, end dates are based on the Netflix Canada service. The most notable losses (in my opinion) are: 1. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts: with 30 episodes to watch in only five days (June 25 is last day to watch):, you still can do it if you average ten episodes a day. I BELIEVE IN YOU!! 2. The Wrath of Becky (details below, since I would prefer you watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts first, and The Wrath of Becky is leaving Netflix three days AFTER Kipo series leaves.) Personally upset at Kipo series leaving Netflix, in part because the opening credits of each episode start with "A Netflix Original Series" screen, so removing a Netflix series FROM Netflix feels like a slap in the face. ### read more

Furality Ultra shows creative contrast in a technology world looking to homogenize
Furality for 2026 has completed its strongest year yet. Their attendance continued to grow by gaining 1,000 more attendees at 27,943. This growth has tempered, likely due to headwinds primarily caused by a new requirement of verifying age through electronic tools required to attend starting this year. They raised $116,121 according to the latest announcement for Resilient Hearts animal sanctuary, a LGBTQ+ run animal rescue. The theme for this year was “Ultra”, a gaming theme where you visit the virtual world of the fictional console of the Ultravox Prism that is set to shut down at the end of the weekend. Many of the references were to the consoles of the mid-2000s that included loading intros and health warnings of overplaying that preceded many games of the era to invoke nostalgia toward that era of gaming long past. The format of this gathering is seeming to become established and with that being the polish of the worlds is better than they ever have been. This article will go over the improvements found, but this year will primarily focus on the Dealer’s Mall in later sections. For a more larger view of Furality it is recommended reading our premiere article covering Furality Umbra from 2024. [2025 Furality Somna also available] read more

Who Is Running New Anthrodam?
A surprise came to New York City furs at the end of April when word spread of a new convention this November in their area that nobody had heard of: New Anthrodam. Without an official announcement, nor having been established in conjunction with the local furry organizations, people were left in the dark as to who was running it. New Anthrodam, to be held in downtown Brooklyn the weekend before Thanksgiving, caught even the organizers of local events off guard when knowledge of it went around. On April 3rd, a Bluesky account bearing the name was created and made its first post: “Coming soon!” but no attention was given until awareness of it arrived suddenly on the 24th, during Furgeddaboutit. The website the account linked to—registered last August, according to a WHOIS query—consists of a logo, dates and venue, two social media links, a link to sign up to a mailing list, and a vector city skyline (with windows that light up randomly on each visit). No information on what it is about or how to register are provided for a convention less than six months out. So, who runs it? read more

Movie review: 'The Sheep Detectives'
I was vaguely aware, browsing bookstores and libraries, that there was an odd group of murder mysteries with cats on the cover illustration (and cat puns in the title of course), but for many years was not entirely sure that this wasn't just one prolific author writing one ongoing series to a niche but dedicated readership of cat detective fans. Despite being a fan of anthropomorphic animals in stories, and generally liking detective fiction, they just seemed a little bit too specific for even me. The only example of one of these novels I've ever read featured foxes rather than cats, and it was unfortunately terrible enough that it killed what little spark of enthusiasm for the genre I had. My lack of interest in the sub-genre seems to be mirrored by the furry fandom at large (we tend to like our cat detectives a bit more bipedal, among other traits). Recently, this little genre has slipped off the written page and onto the big screen. The Sheep Detectives adapts one of these novels, Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, which the observant reader may have already deduced features sheep detectives rather than cats. Directed by Kyle Balda, this movie tells the story of George Hardy, an Irish shepherd played by Hugh Jackman, who enjoys reading detective stories out loud to his flock, never believing for a second they are actually paying attention to the stories and learning sleuthing skills second hand from these readings. When George suddenly dies one night, the sheep begin to suspect foul play, and decide to solve the crime themselves. read more

Comic review: Blacksad, volumes 6 and 7 (2021-2023)
This is a belated review of the last two official volumes of Blacksad, the French hardcover comic series about a cat detective written by Spanish author Juan Díaz Canales, with _gorgeous_ anthropomorphic art by Juanjo Guarnido. Credit to StratoKasta who beat me to it back in 2024! So why am I getting around to this now? Because I want to read something new that's Blacksad-adjacent, and didn't want to do that without reviewing these first. I'd last read _Blacksad_ volume 5 (_Amarillo_) ages ago, and had largely forgotten it. So diving back into the series felt like riding a bicycle after a long absence - a bit wobbly at first, then getting back into the groove. The last two volumes are a two-parter called **They All Fall Down** (French: _Alors, tout tombe_). read more

Running out of spite - Furgeddaboutit 2026
_Attendees at opening ceremonies for Furgeddaboutit in its second year, whose theme was centered around the 1980s. (Eberra Wolf/Flayrah)_ **Co-reported with Kamen The Lycanroc** In the last weekend of April, Furgeddaboutit’s second year hosted over a thousand attendees and raised $11,828.31 for charity. For the New Jersey convention, this year’s theme was “Don’t You FURGeddabout Me: All About the 80s!”. From Friday to Sunday, songs from the decade emanated from the ballroom, a few furs dressed in their best 80s fashion, and several took photos with small sets in the hallway, themed on the decade. Furgeddaboutit was originally established to spite another furry convention, Garden State Fur The Weekend, or GSFTW, for its unscrupulous ties with an infamous furry group that was responsible for ending Rocky Mountain Fur Con in 2017. In turn Furgeddaboutit drew prospective attendees away from it by overlapping on the same days. GSFTW suffered a large blow from what became a drain of defectors, and as of writing is seemingly defunct. There has been no official talk of a 2026 convention for Garden State beside what appears to be in the last public communication, on Twitter in mid-June of last year, fielding suggestions on a theme. GSFTW did not respond to a request for comment. read more
