The connection with Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens reminds me of the British word lido from Lansbury's Lido (also in London), but I'm still confused if that has to do with Lido di Venezia or not

Ahh, trotuar in Yiddish, too. And apparently in the local Pfalz dialect here in Kaiserslautern.

Where should I start in this literature? (Also only recently started getting involved in RCTs!)

Yay priorVAE! For anyone who wants to try something similar, the brilliant students working with @liza-semenova.bsky.social and I have a ton of useful extensions in the GitHub.com/MLGlobalHealth/dl4bi repo. And we're always open to collaboration

Went to StanCon 2 years ago & saw a presentation by @liza-semenova.bsky.social And now, here's our first paper together inspired by that talk, led by mine and Gwen Eadie's PhD student Rodrigo Herrera arxiv.org/abs/2606.22601

Scalable Bayesian Additive Models for Stellar Flare Detection via Amortized Gaussian Process Inference and Hidden Markov Models
Gaussian Processes (GPs) are a powerful tool for Bayesian time-series modeling, yet their cubic computational cost remains a severe barrier for application to long, high-cadence datasets in astronomy....

Is it a result of AI search or do you have any idea how exactly they're ending up with these sources?

Was just reading it while waiting for the little one to fall asleep. Great book so far. Had a vague idea to build an Enshittification index for companies / websites, not really sure how to operationalize it yet.

I guess the uni needs to open a children's lending library with a donor's name on it. Seems like a reasonable thing to fundraise for. Plenty of empty storefronts in the city centre.

Similarly I remember the Westgate multiyear renovation, county library closed as a result. Had assumed it would reopen and be newly renovated. It reopened eventually and was quite disappointing. ...my reference point is the glorious US public libraries (Boston, etc) but also like any small town!

Compared to Oxford university you mean? Or also just public libraries underfunded across England? Both true it seems. Still don't know why, would've thought there'd be some trickle down effect from, e.g. OUP. Do they never give free books to the libraries?

Thoughts on why the Oxfordshire public libraries are ... underwhelming?
