We're looking forward to seeing the city and state execute on this plan for the sake of everyone who relies on the bus, both here and across NYC!
A paragraph of text reading, "Faster, more reliable buses will deliver greater opportunities for all New Yorkers who rely on the bus. With dedicated bus infrastructure, riders spend less time waiting for or traveling on a bus, and more time reaching opportunities that enhance their lives." Below is a photo captioned "The B103 stuck in traffic on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn," taken about a block north of the Applebee's and Target at Flatbush Junction.

But we're also very happy that the city and state understand WHY this is important. Bus service is an essential lifeline in parts of the city like ours where subway stations cannot be found every few blocks, and improved bus service is an equity issue.
A table of commute mode by demographic characteristic. 75% of people of color take the bus, 62% take the subway, and 52% take a personal vehicle. 55% of women take the bus, 54% take the subway, and 41% take a personal vehicle. For households with <$100,000 income, 76% of them take the bus, 58% take the subway, and 44% take a personal vehicle. The chart is sourced to the MTA Customers Count Survey Fall 2025.

Beyond the above rapid bus corridors, we can also look forward to general investments across 50 total "Priority Corridors." In our area, this additionally includes Avenue J and Kings Highway. For this year, DOT is committing to capital work on the Kings Highway corridor.

We are excited to hear that @mayor.nyc.gov is prioritizing the long-delayed bike lane network in Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Midwood. We have been advocating for this network for years, both to protect cyclists and to improve safety for all road users in our neighborhoods.
Screenshot of NYT article:

Mr. Mamdani is also expected to announce that the city will build a bike lane network through the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Midwood, Flatbush and East Flatbush, and add protected lanes to Dorchester and Cortelyou Roads in Ditmas Park, and along Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues, also in Brooklyn.

“These projects will improve the quality of life for so many New Yorkers — but until today many were stalled because of politics,” said Mike Flynn, the city’s new transportation commissioner, in a statement. “This is just the beginning.”

Protected bike lanes are proven solutions that make streets safer for everyone: pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.
Slide from NYC DOT presentation titled "Safety Benefits of Protected Bike Lanes":

Street designs that include Protected Bike Lanes increase safety for all users.

15% decrease in all crashes with injuries
15% decrease in motor vehicle occupant crashes
21% decrease in pedestrian injuries
Injuries to cyclists increase only 3%, despite a 61% bike volume increase

Data from 25 separate protected bicycle lane projects installed from 2007-2014 with 3 years of after data. Includes portions of 1 Ave, 2 Ave, 8 Ave, 9 Ave, Broadway, Columbus Ave, Hudson St, Lafayette St / 4 Ave, Sands St, Allen/Pike St, Kent Ave, Prospect Park West, Flushing Ave, Bruckner Blvd & Longfellow Ave, Imlay St / Conover St, Paerdegat Ave. Only sections of projects that included protected bike lanes were analyzed. • Signal cycle lengths of 60, 90, and 120 seconds are all present
