Let's not forget to celebrate what is unquestionably the biggest, most popular holiday this month.

Returning to the Delta Quadrant was unexpectedly rough. Season 1 of Star Trek: Voyager (VOY) isn't the lowest-rated of this rewatch, but it was the most disappointing. Missed potential, questionable decisions, and too much body horror. Also: 5 holodeck episodes but no power to replicate coffee???

Deep Space Nine (DS9) gets even better in Season 2, where the storylines diversify, make stronger connections with the broader Star Trek universe, and leverage the uniqueness of this setting and these characters even more. No, you haven't had too much tulaberry wine—the chart got a makeover.

Here's my biggest Star Trek graph yet, covering all 7 seasons of The Next Generation (TNG). Oddly, I'm most nostalgic for Seasons 1 and 3-5. I'm discovering that certain graph shapes say more about my enjoyment than the averages. Don't look too closely at the "Other" writer row. Things got goofy.

So I picked up Funny Island Game. I wanted a coherent theme for my island, and I settled on one that fits perfectly with another ongoing project... MANY more pictures available if anyone's interested.

A popup is above the logo, which says "Welcome to... Strange New Island". Leaning out from behind the logo, with arm waving, is a Mii designed to look like Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Here it is, folks. After 3 seasons of Mediocre Trek and 12 seasons of Good Trek, the penultimate season of The Next Generation (TNG) joins the TOS movies as Great Trek. Creative, thought-provoking sci-fi. Meaningful continuity with past episodes and other series. A fine show. A credit to her name.

I'm playing Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, a classic RPG for the SNES. While updating my party's equipment, I noticed some...odd...text mistakes. Hilariously, changing the name in an equipment slot doesn't fully replace the old name; it pastes over top of it. These look like verb conjugations!

I've long held that Deep Space Nine (DS9) is objectively the best Star Trek...but you need to stick with it. Season 1, AKA Only Murders in the Station, AKA Yamok Time, doesn't boldly go where you'd expect. But it understands the mission of *Trek* is more than just the mission of the *Enterprise*.

I've reached the point in my Star Trek (re)watch project where there's overlap between TNG (including the movies and ENT finale), DS9, and VOY. I'll be juggling two series at a time, with a semi-flexible viewing order (hitting key milestones before moving on, but not obsessing over stardates).

I've been dreading Mega Man 8—it's not a favorite, I'm not great at it, and it's *long*. Early attempts at showoffery weren't fun. So I pivoted and learned how to have fun. Then the showoffery followed naturally. The practice run is finally complete. Now it's time to record.

As I rewatch Star Trek: The Next Generation, it's increasingly apparent how much of a role model Captain Picard has been to me. He helped teach me how to embrace differences, stand up for what I believe in, change hearts and minds with words, be a good boss, be a good friend. And how to enjoy tea.

WOW. Amazing progress tonight on practicing MM8. I'd been stuck for a couple weeks on merely *surviving* Wily 1 (you know, the SLEDDING stage). Then I decided to try *even harder* to show off. Which somehow made the stage...almost easy? I'm never playing it the normal way again. Onto Wily 2!

Rewatching ALL of Star Trek in chronological in-universe order has been a fascinating treat so far. Before I boldly go to the 24th century, let's look back at the scores so far. They're extremely close! Reminder that I'm keeping the Discoverse separate, and this doesn't count the ENT finale yet.

Season 2 of Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS) barely merits a separate graph from Season 1—it's only 6 episodes and feels almost the same! On a rewatch, I was more critical of some aspects of TAS...but less critical of, say, tricking Romulans with an inflatable Enterprise. Onto the movies!

Gigantic tribbles? Shrinking crewmen? An ill-advised crossover with Known Space? Must be Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS) Season 1. Fuzzy canonicity aside, TAS is a welcome continuation of Kirk's 5-year mission that (usually) fits with established Trek. That's really all I want from a spinoff!

Infographic time! Here's a recap/overview of my scores for Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS). Considering this is the show that set the standard for the franchise, the series average is fitting—3.0 is my baseline for what Trek should ideally be. Interesting which writer ended up on the bottom!

The third and final season of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) might rank slightly behind the others, but don't let Herbert tell you it's bad. More narrative consistency. Fewer egregious HR violations. So much that sparks my imagination. Forget the 1960s; this feels like the 2260s. Onto TAS!

Previously, I would've told you that Season 2 of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) was my favorite. Statistically... it isn't! Although it still frequently reminds me it's a 1960s TV show, this season develops and refines TOS to more consistently embody what I love about it and Trek in general.

Watching Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) immediately after Enterprise (ENT)—in production order and Remastered (both a first for me)—was interesting. Lots to unpack for a future blog post. For me, Season 1 has a lot of pacing/writing issues, but the best parts are so satisfying. Solid overall.

After 3 entertaining but uneven seasons of low-tech TNG/DS9/VOY adventures, Star Trek: Enterprise finishes strong as the TOS prequel it was meant to be. "Isn't there 1 more episode?" Not yet! Too early in the timeline for that. For now, "Terra Prime" is the end of ENT, as it should be. Onto TOS!

For my (re)watch of ALL of Star Trek, I'm rating each episode and movie on a scale of 0 to 5. Expect a weekly graph starting soon! First, though, I think it's important to share my methodology. I'm not following a strict rubric, but here's a summary of the key factors contributing to my scores:
Factors that contribute to a higher score include: allegory and social commentary, transporting me to a believable future I want to live in, good stories, anything that lets me soak in the universe, and anything that elicits a well-earned emotional reaction.

Factors that contribute to a lower score include: oversights that strain credibility and make it hard to suspend my disbelief; anything so unwelcome that I am worse for watching it; anything that frustrates or annoys me; anything that leaves me wanting; and any prejudice/bias/etc in the writing, direction, or production.

Factors that typically have little or no impact on a score include: the overall production values compared with other series/movies, obvious continuity issues that persist throughout a series, forgivable continuity issues, an excess of Treknobabble, and episodic vs serialized storytelling.

Here's the watch order for my big Star Trek project. My views on continuity echo those of website Ex Astris Scientia. Officially, this is a rewatch of the first 50 years of Trek, and a second attempt to get through the last 10 years—previously foiled by canon rage, tone issues, and a weak stomach.

I'm taking a break from movies to pursue a project I've been contemplating for years: a full rewatch of ALL of Star Trek. It's fine; I've got 700 hours to spare. More details to come, but I'm following in-universe chronology, starting with Enterprise. I'm also rating every episode. Expect graphs.

I've spent most of the last decade working on Mega Man fangames. It's been fun, it's been gratifying, it's been exhausting. It's time for something new. Or, perhaps...something old. Getting back to recording is a goal for this year, and I've started shaking off the dust.
