The problem I have with this question is that it's often asked with an implication of "you don't need it and you're a jerk for wanting it," which, no. Sorry, not sorry, I like my smart light bulbs, I just don't want them tethered to some corporation's cloud infrastructure.

I'm slowly but surely migrating my Hue bulbs off the Hue hub and onto my own Zigbee network that I manage with open source software, no cloud required. Liberation one bulb at a time!
