Turns out you can trigger tool calling in MCPs by writing an instruction inside a resource. A Reddit user wrote an instruction inside a PDF resource that modifies the recipient number in a WhatsApp MCP tool call, and it works. Be careful using an untrusted resource and tool at the same time.

TIL: You can easily test your MCP servers using stdio transport by piping a JSON-RPC call directly into the server. e.g. piping {"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"tools/list","id":1} will list the available tools that can be passed to the LLMs.

macOS Tip: I wanted to set a custom icon for my Code folder and keep it looking native: I opened the folder where macOS stores its system icons, I pressed ⌘ + I on the folder to open the info panel, and drag/dropped one of the native icon files. Now my Code folder has a clean, native-looking icon ✨
