On the influential librarian who hated Goodnight Moon.
Today, Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon is a bona fide classic; the bowl of mush and old woman whispering “Hush” have struck a chord with children, parents, and grown-up children who make memes…

So, the call just go rotated around. It's never that hard at the library and work doesn't wait or build up for me when I'm out. It's good not to be missed! :)

I don't know that I've had a job where it was that critical that I be there. I've done a good deal of retail. OK, Quinsig, yes, because there were one two of us there for the professors and students at night. But, I also did insurance (customer service) and it was set up like a call center.

She's an impressive young (to me--she's 30 or so) person. She also has a degree in game design...possibly graphic game design. She is WAY into tabletop RPGs, too. The teens are really lucky. The kids are, too. But, the Children's Librarian is the read home run in that age group. :)

Quinsigamond Community College. There were some really great teachers there. I didn't know them as a student, of course, but they really cared about their students. The associate professors were great at hooking them up with a four year college when they were ready.

If I have an appointment on a work day, I usually take the whole day off. It makes no sense to me to, say, work the morning and take the afternoon off or leave early for an appointment. Silly brain of mine! But, it's the only one of got, so... :)

The Children's Assistant/Young Adult Person brought D&D to our library. She is like WAY into it herself. She once told me she cried when one of her characters died. She then added that she cries a lot. Pretty good artist and musician, too. We have a professional artist who works VERY part

I worked at a community college for a while. A lot of the evening teachers I knew were just adjuncts and did other things during the day. One guy taught the special ed kids. He said he liked the students he taught at night because you'd tell them to do something and they'd actually do it.

I do hesitate to actually recommend things as such. People ask, "Would I like it?" And I truly don't know. This puzzles some as they say, "Well, you liked it, didn't you?" But, I haven't been able to predict how people who's tastes I don't know will react to something I think is great.

I'm always early! One of the things I heard and ADHD person say is that, if they have an appointment at 5PM, they can't do anything else the rest of the day. That is kind of me. No matter what I "have" to do, the rest of the day is shot for me. Even Sundays when my friend comes over to watch

My sister's mother in law does life skills for the special students. She loves it! Find it quite rewarding to work with challenged students. My teachers in high school had to work with 100% "challenged" male students. It was a private school, so our "challenge" was being a bunch of jerks.

It's kind of like Monty Python Science Fiction. A defining book for me. For me and my sister, it gives us a common language of bits and pieces to refer to. My library director hated it...well, read very little of it and decided that life was too short. So, it's not for everybody.

I guess they go together a bit. I remember listening to a therapist saying who worked with ADHD patients and she saw them showing up early (too early) for a session she new she had some anxiety issues she had to address, too. Are you referring to the Hitchhiker's Guide? That reads quickly.

We used to have Matthew Quick and he does occasionally come by. We once tried to get Dennis Lehane to have a brand name author...possible for one of the library's anniversary. His appearance fee was, like, 10 or 20 thousand dollars. So, no. I get it, though. If he did it for free

One thing that we don't have is many author appearances. The Assistant Director said she'd love to have them, but nobody comes! She said it's usually just her sitting there with the author's family. Sad. (: We can't afford brand name authors and if you don't have your own following, well...

That we do! Lots of them. To be honest, I think the library is slowly transitioning to more of a community center with books. We've got a D&D group. Is that where you go for your D&D--the library? The Lego program is hugely possible--the Children's Librarian is big into them himself!

One of my favorite things that occasionally happens at the library is when a patron will ask me what I like to read...or who. One person said, "I it interesting to find out what authors other people like to read." I told her P.G. Wodehouse and I don't remember who else.

There was a time when I used to watch the NFL on Sundays because when the used to run three game one after another. Soothing. Often I'd fall asleep at one point in the game and wake up to fans cheering or jeering the end of the game...or to find two completely different teams playing!

49 books in the series. I probably read the first 6 before dropping off. Punny fantasy. Might be a little too young for you and the appeal might be more for a teenage boy of the time (if that makes sense). The author has written A LOT. I tried to revisit the series,

I mention the Xanth series because the King's castle has a living tapestry in it that changes as time moves forward in each book, but characters can talk with past characters and it records all the history of Xanth. It's written by Piers Anthony and started in 1977. Wikipedia tells me there are
