Good story, but jayzuz does it make the City look stupid… and we all know there's no shortage of instances of the City doing things to make itself look stupid.

I get a kick out of the incompetence of City staff as much as the next guy, but this seems extreme to me 😉

One of your favourite stories is about how the City of Ottawa didn't do its research properly and put up big badminton racquets to honour a world champion badminton player named Jack Purcell from Guelph despite the fact that the park wasn't named after that particular Jack Purcell?

How many times have you said "it's never going to happen" since 2016, only for those things to end up happening? There is little off the table for these people, and crazy, desperate people will do crazy, desperate things.

The fact that Sutcliffe's campaign in the last couple of weeks has no cohesion whatsoever and is totally scattershot should be easy for any opposing campaign to make hay with if they have any agility whatsoever. I'm not holding my breath.

Lawson and that whole situation is one big exercise in bad faith. No wonder the convoy crowd get so worked up and 😍 about him.

His last 6 weeks of campaign announcements all evoke "So why didn't you do that in the last four years?" from me.

If I was a bag of shit Trumper, trying to rile up anti-ICE protests in a deep blue city with the hopes of the protests getting so big that you have to declare martial law and end up making the ability to vote in midterms extremely difficult, this would be the sort of thing I'd be contemplating.

FYI: Emrys Graefe is Alex Lawson's half-brother and is running Lawson's campaign to become mayor.

Not a great look, but then add his bundesadler tattoo, a haircut he had for a while, a weird thing for Roman imperialism (drives a Jeep Rubicon, license plate evokes a roman legion), and the whole worked-for-Maxime-Bernier thing, some associations become less a stretch and more a legit concern.

Graefe has a whole mess of red flags on him. Apparently when he was a parking bylaw officer in the mid-late 2000's he liked to make jokes about LGBTQ folks, Jewish folks and people with mental health issues.

A fantastic example of City staff incompetence.

Ottawa needs a borough system, stat. The core needs a degree of autonomy from the suburbs.

FYI: someone filed a freedom of information request about the proposed LRT upload to Metrolinx. It seems there’s been no discussion between Sutcliffe and the province on this topic since at least March of this year. Remember this any time he makes a promise related to the LRT upload. #ottpoli

Doug Ford blocked a court order to release his cell records by removing all gov FOI requests. Ford's Chief of Staff Patrick Sackville traded in a personal cell phone containing gov records, the phone was "reset" and the gov records were missing. #cdnpoli

The fact that we bulldozed an entire neighbourhood in the 60s and it sat mostly empty for the next 60 years… and it continues to be mostly empty.

Wholly unsurprising. She's an awful choice for Ward 9, especially with her slandering opponents. Would be a toxic influence on City Council, much in the vein of Jan Harder (who endorsed her, which should be the kiss of death for anyone with common sense and an ounce of civility).

She's got a ton of integrity, too. She went in deep on the revenue streams for both ASE and red-light cameras and brought to light the fact that the money wasn't originally going where the City was telling us it was, despite her being a staunch supporter for those programs.

Should probably delete the BIA itself as well. The only thing they seem do be any good at is embarrassing itself and its membership.

TIL the max number of coins you can use to load $5 onto your Presto card at LRT stations is 36. If you’re trying to dump as much coin weight as possible (and get weird looks from people walking past you as you dump said weight), that’s 30×5¢ + 2×25¢ + 1×1$ + 1×2$ You’re welcome!

…as did Jim Watson & the City doing zero consultations with local First Nations and leaving us open to a major lawsuit and constitutional challenge, despite Watson’s near legendary espoused position on never wanting the City to be on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

Ottawa’s then Mayor crowing over how Tewin was a great way to forward reconciliation while simultaneously brushing aside concerns about the legitimacy of Algonquins of Ontario brought about by other Algonquin First Nations really did it for me.

Warm Up The Guillotine @fiverdrive.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
This was always the endgame. Taggart (& Jim Watson) used reconciliation & First Nations as a smokescreen to get Tewin across the finish line, and now the City is going to be billions out of pocket for a project in the middle of nowhere that the City never wanted. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

After 8 home games, the (0–15) RedBlacks' attendance is down 15.6% percent from last year. The irresponsibly optimistic Lansdowne 2.0 deal was predicated on 5.9% annual revenue increases from OSEG from 2023-24 to 2028-29. www.oagottawa.ca/media/1yhp51... Why would anyone vote for Sutcliffe?

It should be noted that Making Time's first event in Montreal was NYE 2023, well before Grondin became Ottawa's night mayor in June of '24.

Anyone that thought Grondin coming to town was going to turn Ottawa into a rave mecca was nuts, especially given how historically hostile the City of Ottawa has been to that scene and its infrastructure. Grondin's making slow progress and has some W's under his belt.

Unsurprising. Also: Sutcliffe has done two city budgets where savings from an assumed LRT upload were factored in… and since the upload never happened, this left a large hole in the budget that had to be plugged with other funding. It's wild that he's still in the lead… and again, unsurprising.

That 10,303 set a new record for a Frontier League playoff game. It helps that Ottawa's stadium capacity is 2k more than the next team in the league, but still.

Don't worry, at the rate the team is going (0-14 this season, 0-20 over the last 20 games, year-over-year attendance down ~15%), those columns of Redblacks coverage will be freed up for other teams soon when the CFL team folds.
