I don't publish a lot b/c the bulk of my time and energy go to helping other people do so, but if we're doing year-end highlights, here's a trifle of mine that came out in PRISM international a few months ago.

Text of poem "Local Interior Time":

Memory is not
a blessing. It’s a sawblade waiting
to catch the skin
of composure.

When the future’s been wrenched
off its tracks, what’s left
is a perpetual cracking through. Imagine
a shopful of stained-glass mirrors
shaking in an earthquake.

Imagine whole flutters
of sparrows, stunned by sunlight,
slamming ceaselessly
into skyscraper windows. The snap
of their bones.

Like that, but

more, and more private.

There’s a strange jangle in the wires
of what used to be the self.
There are trees burning somewhere
just off the page.

What’s left of time is a cold trickle—
a handful of notes from a Chopin nocturne, played
religioso, sempre legato,
poured straight
down the spine.
