Yeah, 24ish C. I've always lived in the southern part of the states so I'm used to high heat and humidity. It's been consistently in the low 90s (32C) here for the past few months which is why that's cold to me

Thank you! I knew the direction would be a bit odd, but the idea for this chapter started to rattle around my head in April, and I just had to go with it. It's been nice to finally have a (mostly) clear mind after so long

Chapter 22 of Coup touches on the above, though maybe not as clear as I wanted. And I think I've managed to deviate from my original intentions with this post. Guess all there is to say is that I'm glad I get to leave a bit of myself with people, and I'm glad I've been getting that back in turn.

For me, the creation of art has always been tied closely to the consumption of it. To make art is to leave a part of yourself in it, and to consume it is to let parts of someone else in. I put a lot of myself in my work. Sometimes it's intentional, sometimes it's not.

Consumption has been an unintentional undertone in my writing for years. I didn't realize it until the beginning of this year. It's why the Silence resonated so much with me. It's definitely a way that is different from a lot of people from what I've noticed. Which isn't a bad thing. Art does that.

And that scene will never make it into Coup now. This isn't a bad thing! At all! The story has evolved beyond that scene, and I've cannibalized it for so many moments throughout it that the work is all the better for. Genuinely, there's some level of irony in that.

As I said, I didn't have a roadmap for Coup. I didn't even plan to publish anything! I just wrote to help process things. That's why I write in the first place. Then I wrote a scene where I just knew I had to make something for it. I had to write the story that went around it.

Now, over 150k words deep on a work I started on a whim and with little plan, I'm starting to rethink (or at least reframe) where I'm at in my writing journey. I still hesitate to call myself a great writer, and the thought of calling myself an author is even scarier! But Coup makes me want to.

Then in 2024 I wrote a couple works where I could just *feel* how much I've grown and changed as a writer and as a person. The feeling that maybe I'm a bit better than slightly above average. I knew I wasn't a bad writer, but I could also see where I had room to improve (and still do!)

Like, I've been writing as a hobby for around 15 years now! I can look back at the things I wrote as a child and see the growth, but up until recently I more wrote that off as just natural growth, that it's not something terribly special. You do anything for that long and you're bound to improve.

Been a few days now, and I've had a lot of thoughts about chapter 22 of Coup de Plume. I'm very happy with how it has turned out (and the reception of it!), but it's left me thinking about how much my view of my own writing has changed over the past few years.

I actually held quite a handful a few months ago! It was more on accident than anything else. Double time was just a lot faster to use for some folio challenges. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them still stand as top tens

I dislike the Dudunsparce draw engine just a bit less now, but only because I can say Dunsparce won worlds and not Dragapult
