He said this at the time, as did many, and it remains a bald-faced lie. Not a matter of opinion. It's just completely untrue as an objective factual matter. Civil marriage laws don't work like that and never have. Just like the legality of divorce and remarriage doesn't affect the Catholic Church.

I totally agree! I couldn’t understand the idea of in-house legal having revenue - unless your org actually charges you out to internal customers. Which would be artificial and weird as it just creates a barrier to taking expert advice.

Agree. That’s why I said maximise potential gain on the other’. Like a lot of business cost centres the cost is direct, but the value is indirect as it is captured by some other part of the business. It’s why I couldn’t understand the idea of in-house legal having revenue.

Isn’t legal a cost centre rather than a revenue centre? Admittedly I have little understanding of what you do, but surely the point of in-house counsel to minimise risk and loss on the one hand and maximise potential gain on the other? You’re a cost to the departments that sell products or services?

So 95R near my town jumped again overnight to US$7.96/gal. That’s an increase of $2.96/gal since 19 Feb 26. Our petrol was considered expensive back then. Thanks Trump and everyone who voted for him.

Maybe we’ve finally identified a good use case for AI? The software could have an embedded agent that reviews the reason and insistgat it matches the requirements of the relevant statute. Even alerting oversight if junk or obvious nonsense is input.

Back in the 80’s I got a job as a research scientist without a PhD. To the best of my knowledge every scientist employed by that institution since has a PhD. By the mid 90s we had PhDs applying for Technicians positions to get a foot in the door.
