😉 Had a parent scream at me for 10 minutes a few years ago on how their child’s IQ was “off the charts,” and I was a horrid teacher because they didn’t “get” an A. The only thing the student could do at that point was memorize and repeat.🫤

True. So many issues. Most state tests are bad, the SAT is silly now. At least we’re through the NCLB / RTT days. It’s a matter of great puzzlement to me that every state has colleges of Ed yet we turn test writing and scoring over to contractors.🤔

Well, I wish that were true. The SAT now is mostly just a measure of test prep skills; I don't think it's an indicator of college readiness at all any more. It's more of a proxy for who can afford test prep...which is in turn a proxy for who can afford college without a lot of financial aid. 😬

100% 😎 When I assess, I tell my students I’m looking for evidence of learning, not perfection. After first few quizzes, they get it. (many students - 11th / 12th - enter my classroom w/ “scar tissue” from prior experiences; if they’re always concerned about “doing it right,” they’re not learning)

The SAT is no longer an indication of college readiness; it only measures test prep skills now (generally a proxy for wealth). What it does do: support colleges picking the students they want and justifying it through “well, their SAT results say…”

I am a committed modeler and I know active learning leads to stronger learning gains. It’s pretty shocking that I still see fellow Ts with “take notes” as their objective for the data. Most US math instruction is broken. Students are memorizing algorithms, not learning math.🫤

A question: our Outlook email at my school now offers ai summaries of our email inbox. Since Microsoft is now reading our emails, I’m assuming they’re also storing that info somewhere. Isn’t this a major privacy (safety) issue? (second rule of Fight Club: never trust the ai overlords)

My dad had polio, I was born after the polio vaccine was available and never had polio.🫡 Also, these are gone. Polio wasn’t eliminated by thought and prayers. (my dad was never in an iron lung, but had polio-caused deformities)
