École d’été en Histoire de la guerre et du fait militaire
Du 22 au 26 juin prochain, l’Université de Liège, l’Université catholique de Louvain, campus Saint-Louis Bruxelles et l’Université du Québec à Montréal organiseront à Liège leur première université d’été en Histoire de la guerre et du fait militaire. Cette édition sera consacrée au Crime de guerre et à la Justice militaire et rassemblera les équipes des projets F.R.S.-FNRS WelCHANGE "À l’origine du crime de guerre ? La violence militaire en question dans les sociétés européennes du XVe siècle" et CRSH "Justice militaire en Europe occidentale et en Amérique du Nord (XIVe-XXe siècles)". Cette école d’été réunira une vingtaine de spécialistes travaillant sur l’histoire de la criminalité militaire et de la justice dans les armées, en temps de guerre comme de paix, du Moyen Âge tardif à l’époque contemporaine. L’enjeu de cette rencontre est de réfléchir aux tentatives de régulation juridique, politique et sociale de cette acmé de violence que constitue l’activité guerrière et de fournir à nos plus jeunes collègues les outils conceptuels pour l’étudier. Comment certains comportements furent-ils criminalisés, jugés et sanctionnés ? L’existence de sanctions suffit-elle à attester l’ancienneté de la notion de "crime de guerre" ? Quelle place occupe la justice militaire, entre ses supposés laxisme et sévérité expéditive ? Pour explorer ces questions, l’école d’été donne la parole aux équipes des deux projets ainsi qu’à de jeunes chercheuses et chercheurs. Parallèlement, l’histoire de la guerre et du fait militaire se trouvant encore trop largement prisonnière de scansions construites autour de grands noms ou paradigmes (Napoléon, Clausewitz, Guerre totale, Mécanisation, Droit international), cette rencontre visera à dépasser ces démarcations chronologiques pour que s’éclairent réciproquement des périodes parfois fort éloignées les unes des autres. Enfin, sur la base d’un objet de recherche lié à la justice militaire choisi en accord avec les organisateurs, les jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses participeront en amont et tout au long de la semaine à l’élaboration d’une exposition virtuelle, hébergée sur Criminocorpus et à ce titre valorisable dans leur parcours académique. Cette école d’été est ouverte aux candidats et candidates au Master/Maîtrise ou au Doctorat ayant entamé un travail de recherche dans le domaine de l’Histoire de la guerre et du fait militaire de toutes périodes et régions. Son objectif est de leur donner l’occasion d’approfondir leur maîtrise du champ et de discuter de leurs travaux et hypothèses avec les membres de ces deux équipes internationales (Allemagne, Belgique, Canada, Italie, France, Portugal), ainsi qu’avec leurs pairs. Pour ce faire, les journées de travail des lundi, mardi, jeudi et vendredi seront organisées en trois temps : Présentation et discussion des travaux des membres des deux projets ; Présentation et discussion sur les recherches des participants ; Préparation de l’exposition virtuelle. Le mercredi sera réservé à la visite de deux des plus riches musées de la ville de Liège : le Musée d’Armes et le Trésor de la Cathédrale. Les travaux se feront principalement en français. Une compréhension active de cette langue est donc demandée. Les frais d’hébergement et de bouche seront pris en charge par l’organisation. Si les budgets rassemblés le permettent, celle-ci interviendra également dans les frais de déplacement.
