By a margin of one whole vote (8-7), this year's Trope of Tropes is The Cavalry Arrives! The swelling music and glorious quips as the good guys' allies show up in the nick of time proved irresistible.

The Cavalry Arrives. Our Characters are bogged down, enemies all around. They're ready to fight to the end but there will be no victory. Then, just when everything seems lost, reinforcements sweep in and turn the tables. Heroic music plays and enemies go boom.

Forced Proximity. Take your characters. Mash them together. Watch the sparks fly.

Enemies to Lovers. Two characters hate each other. Loathe, even. Maybe they're on opposite sides of a war or just business rivals. But their chemistry proves too strong, and they end up falling for one another.

Final part of round 1 of the Tournament of Tropes! Today's contenders are: Secret World vs The Cavalry Arrives. VOTE IN THE THREAD BELOW!

Our characters are bogged down, enemies all around. They're ready to fight until the end, but there will be no victory. Then, just when everything seems lost, reinforcements sweep ina nd turn the tables. Heroic music plays and enemies go boom.

It's hidden. It's usually magical. And whether a character stumbles in or has known about it forever, they usually have to keep it secret or save it. Sometimes, it's both.

Welcome to round 1.3 of the Tournament of Tropes! Today's contenders are Morally Gray Villain and Unreliable Narrator. VOTE BELOW!

unreliable narrator, they're the ones telling the story, but you have no idea if they're telling you the truth. maybe they're lying, or they don't take their role seriously. either way you're not in good hands with this one.

morally gray villain. sure they might annihilate a village, but they have pretty good reasons for it. probably even noble. we sympathize with them. maybe root for a redemption, but they're still the bad guy, despite their motivation.

Welcome to the 2026 Tournament of Tropes, brought to you by FDD! We have chosen eight heavy-hitters to duke it out over the next month until only one remains. Choose your fave and see how far it goes! 🗳️Vote in the post below! ⬇️⬇️ #FirstDraftDetroit #writingcommunity #writesky #writingcommunity

A gray gradient from light to dark (top to bottom). A shadowy male figure stands in the center, wearing a cloak and carrying a blade behind his back. Shadows and smoke blur the image. At the top in script is the words Shadow Daddy. At the bottom is the text: "he's dark. he's brooding. he wields shadow like a weapon and is as morally gray as his color scheme. there are probaby tattoos. and he's only vulnerable with the protagonist, to whom he is terrifyingly devoted."

A dark background with copper filigree at the corners, a shadowy couple with their foreheads touching and daggers crossed layered over them. In white text above are the words Enemies to Lovers and, below, is a descriptor that says: Two characters hate each other. Loathe, even. Maybe they're on opposite sides of a war or just business rivals. But their chemistry proves too strong, and they end up falling for one another.

A pink background with cute, summery stickers like shells, beach balls, and suns and a sports bracket-style bracket. There are eight tropes listed on the left that people will be voting on. This post's vote is between Enemies to Lovers and Shadow Daddy.

The 2 Week Summer Frenzy has started! (Yesterday, whups.) The Challenge/Leaderboard is available on both TrackBear: trackbear.app/leaderboards... Pacemaker: www.pacemaker.press/users/OwenBo... You can use both, either, or none; but feedback will help decide which is used in the future!

A 2 week event for creators of all kinds to set a personal creative goal, and join others at in person and online meet-ups aka Scribbles to get work done.
