1) I vote/support them even though they backtracked on an important issue for me. I’ve shown that I’ll vote for them even if they break their promise 2) I don’t vote for them. Now I’ve shown they don’t need me and can ignore me (or the worse option is elected). Both options suck imo

Tbc I’m using “should” as both aspirational and as hypothetical…I’m not attempting to manifest this like a dream board. I agree that we have to incentivize them to do what they want, but I also think that the way the system works, those incentives are a false choice.

I don’t think what I said is crying? I’m doing a Bors “I think we should improve society somewhat” knowing that the only power I have in elections is offering my time, money, and vote. The ppl who want me to spend that currency on their behalf shouldn’t also get to side-step being accountable.

I also think people can (and should!) both attack repubs as fascists while still demanding better of Dem pols. I just don’t think Dems that abandon trans people for political expediency, after campaigning they would be a full-throated supporters, should be untouchable just because of the calendar.

That’s the thing though, #2 implies that’s it’s never ok to criticize the candidate after the primary, even if they completely change their position on something as existential as trans rights. Because the conclusion ends up being that if they win and you criticized them, then “fuck you.”

I’d guess I’d argue that the fact that this election is so existential makes it even more imperative that we tell politicians that are asking to lead when they’ve gotten something wrong…criticizing their positions tells them that their voters are watching and demanding better

Look, binary choice elections = one correct answer, but saying that he can’t be criticized this close to an election neglects the fact that he should hear from voters that he’s out of step with his base. Especially since he reversed (or at least weakened) his position after the primary.

Ok, but during the primary Talarico’s rhetoric was more pro-trans rights than in the past few weeks; which if you voted for him bc you thought he’d protect those rights could seem like a betrayal.

I guess I’m confused on this take, that criticism of Talirico’s position is going to lead to a Paxton win. I get we’re in a position where the alternative is worse, but how else do you let a candidate know that their position on an issue doesn’t comport with the values of their voter base?

Become ungovernable. If we ever get out of this, the next AG needs to make referring every DOJ attorney in this admin to the bar a priority. I get that it’ll be something like priority #371 with all the other crimes, but it at least needs to be on someone’s “to do.”

Not only is it illegal, like everything else about this administration it’s also incredibly stupid…those laws protect our soldiers too. We start giving “no quarter” to Iranian soldiers, they’ll do it right back to us. Those rules are there to protect/mitigate both sides from atrocities.

I was in that class in 2012/2013…it was very good (and helpful when I was a PD), but it was very awkward to tell non-law friends/family you had a “Sex Crimes Final” at the end of the semester.

As @kenwhite.bsky.social has said before: "A government that deliberately abandons the rule of law is not morally entitled to its protections." We have eclipsed that tipping point.

Got ‘em…don’t know how he’ll ever survive that blistering takedown Senator…way to go, you solved this constitutional crisis. Historians will look back on this day with reverence and awe; it’s also definitely not pathetic that it took your consultants a day to come up with this sick burn.

I know this has been said before, but the further we get into this administration’s term, the more certain I am that this era of U.S. history will be taught as “Dystopian, but also Stupid.” It still breaks my brain that the dumbest/evilest people this country has to offer are in charge.
