FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 12/10/2026I've sent over a thousand job applications over the last year, only to be able to count the number of replies back on a single hand and be told that, despite having 10 years of experience in hobby softdev and hundreds of completed projects, i wasn't skilled enough for a junior position. 110
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 12/10/2026Glad i spent all those years teaching myself the intricacies of x86 asm, GPU rendering, databases from scratch, programming language compilation, networking, servers, cybersecurity, 10 languages, etc; only for a program to come out and enable someone who cant use a keyboard to do it all in an hour. 110
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 11/10/2026Straight up feels like I've wasted the last decade of my life learning tech only to get out of schooling and have AI rip away any and all opportunities of doing anything professional in the field. 111
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 21/08/2026Flashback to the time my geiger counter went off with a "Off the scale" alarm at work and everyone was asking "Why do you have a geiger counter?" and not "Why is it measuring over 1mSv/h?" 021
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 13/08/2026I feel like the more I check items off my todo list the more it grows. Please send help ;-; 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 25/06/2026In other news, if anyone in the greater Lexington ky area is looking for an IT dude with software development, networking, cyber sec, and server admin experience, let me know. Also open to remote. 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 25/06/2026Got moved into a new department at work the other day. Straight up had someone come up to me today and ask how I liked it followed by "you don't seem happy anymore". 100
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 15/06/2026Its not even like i can't copy paste from nvim at all, its specifically with exactly 2 instances open, copying and pasting between them. 3 instances and its fine. 1 instance into something else and its fine. I hate computers. 020
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 15/06/2026Why can't i just have a normal computer issue for once? Why can't it just be a "Failed to connect to wifi" and I have to re-enter the password or something? I specifically can't copy and paste between *just* two nvim instances without Spotify crashing... 120
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 10/06/2026I might be the most socially anxious person you know but I'll just randomly have a 15 minute conversation with a homeless guy about gas prices and politics while waiting for the grocery store to open at 6am. 010
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 18/05/2026Anyone else just like stop, look around, see everyone you know is doing stuff and going somewhere in life and you're just like posting some stupid thing about your own existential dread on blue sky at 6:37am after staying awake all night playing video games? 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 18/05/2026Can we get a decent discord alternative that people will actually want to switch to already?? I'm tired of discord eating 4gb of ram and crashing every 15 minutes. 1111
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 05/05/2026Managed to get in contact with the dude hosting it, sent some logs and he's working on getting a bug report sent in. Now realizing this probably comes off fairly rude, didn't really mean for it to be, but logging into cloudflare and seeing 2m requests a day does get your blood boiling a bit. Sorry! 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 05/05/2026I've already tracked down the IP and blocked it on the firewall side. Still more or less just pissed that I'm having to pay for the bandwidth XD Its a fairly new relay as far as I can tell as well. 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 05/05/2026I'm all down for relays and firehouses, but 30 million requests in 14 days is just fucking ridiculous. 000
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 05/05/2026To the dude thats calling a repo sync on my PDS 20 times a second. (You know who you are), Please fucking stop. 310
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 02/03/2026Can not recommend setting these up more. Still doesn't beat out compiling on a half decent xfs or well tuned btrfs system but it makes it a lot less insufferable for larger projects. 010
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 02/03/2026Wonder if its a matter of if x86 is just more difficult to compile for. Are you compiling for the same targets? Do wonder how AMD platforms or how different linux fs handle it as well. 100
Reposted by FireWirewriggle nightbug dot com @wrigglenightbug.com · 02/03/2026the kind of funny thing to open Firefox just to download Librewolf is such a Linux distro thing 1131
FireWire @firewire.catgirls.social · 02/03/2026You should be able to just shove any TTF files into /usr/share/fonts/ for systemwide or ~/.local/share/fonts/ or ~/.fonts/ for user wide. Your package manager might have them as well! 110
