A Prayer on D-Day June 6th, 1944 My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. 1/17 #D-DayPrayer #FDR

I’d like to take this moment refer to Executive Order 8802. 🍸
An excerpt from Executive Order 8802, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt on June 25, 1941.

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the statutes, and as a prerequisite to the successful conduct of our national defense production effort, I do hereby reaffirm the policy of the United States that there shall be no discrimination in the employment of workers in defense industries or government because of race, creed, color, or national origin, and I do hereby declare that it is the duty of employers and of labor organizations, in furtherance of said policy and of this order, to provide for the full and equitable participation of all workers in defense industries, without discrimination because of race, creed, color, or national origin;

1921 political cartoon. A weary Uncle Sam is harangued by a snake-oil salesman ("Old Doctor G.O.P.) peddling "High Tariff Tonic."

Is there a war on? Because last time the government encouraged people to grow food in their backyard there was a war on. I know, I was there… both times. 🍸

"The 1st is freedom of speech and expression - everywhere in the world. The 2nd is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way - everywhere in the world. The 3rd is freedom from want... everywhere in the world. The 4th is freedom from fear..." This👇is not what we fought and died for.🍸

My chin wasn’t that large, was it? 🍸
A cartoon by Nick Anderson. FDR speaks with Churchill saying, “America will stand with Great Britain against the global threat of fascism… as soon as you agree to give up 50 percent of your rare earth minerals.”

My God, man. What, exactly, was the pathway to victory for Britain in January 1942? For France? You fight for freedoms… everywhere you can. This man’s cowardice and moral deficiency should disqualify him from public office. 🍸
JD Vance @JDVance (XTwitter)

This is moralistic garbage, which is unfortunately the rhetorical currency of the globalists because they have nothing else to say.

For three years, President Trump and I have made two simple arguments: first, the war wouldn't have started if President Trump was in office; second, that neither Europe, nor the Biden administration, nor the Ukrainians had any pathway to victory. This was true three years ago, it was true two years ago, it was true last year, and it is true today.

One would hope that this is still true. 🍸 From my State of the Union Address, January 4, 1939 —
Dictatorship, however, involves costs which the American people will never pay: The cost of our spiritual values. The cost of the blessed right of being able to say what we please. The cost of freedom of religion. The cost of seeing our capital confiscated. The cost of being cast into a concentration camp. The cost of being afraid to walk down the street with the wrong neighbor. The cost of having our children brought up, not as free and dignified human beings, but as pawns molded and enslaved by a machine.

December 24, 1942 This year I am speaking on Christmas Eve not to this gathering at the White House only but to all of the citizens of our Nation, to the men and women serving in our American Armed Forces and also to those who wear the uniforms of the other United Nations. 1/13

Back in my day... 🍸
Total number of bank suspensions, 1921 to 1936. Data plotted as a curve. Units are banks per year. A vertical line at 1929 indicates the beginning of the stock market crash. A second vertical line at 1933 indicates the banking holiday of 1933. As the figure shows, the annual number of bank suspensions between 1921 and 1928 totaled less than 1,000. In 1929, the annual number of bank suspensions began to rise, peaking in 1933 before collapsing to near zero after the banking holiday. (Data: Federal Reserve Bulletin, September 1937. Graph created by: Sam Marshall, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond)

All US cities should immediately be painted with Great War style Dazzle camouflage to conceal their direction and heading. 🍸

82 years ago Casablanca opened in NY only days after US armed forces landed at Casablanca in French Morocco, and just 8 weeks before I met Winston for the first of our war conferences in, that’s right, Casablanca. I extend my thanks to our valiant troops and to all who fight against the fascists 🫡🍸

In 1930 the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the the? Anyone? Anyone? The Great Depression passed the? Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill - the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act - which? Anyone, raised or lowered? Raised tariffs in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression.

As per the teacher from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Fortunately, I discovered that the good folks here @bsky.app are handing out free accounts to dead presidents. So I intend to rejoin the fray and lend my skeletal fingers to the cause. I hope, my fellow dead presidents will join me. [🍸4/5]
A selection of dead presidents on Twitter... from the other times. Chester Alan Arthur, Martin Van Buren, Millard Fillmore, Calvin Coolidge, William Howard Taft... were among those of us who showed up over there. Some of them are better dead presidents than they were living presidents... but don't tell them I said so.
