We have the knowledge to restore ecosystems and the power to stop the flow of plastic pollution. The ocean is resilient, if we give it a chance. We can #BeatPlasticPollution. Now is the time to make it a reality: www.worldenvironmentday.global

A vibrant coral reef teeming with small orange fish under clear blue water. Bold text over the image says: “Hey, it’s me, the ocean. I carry life, please don’t make me carry plastic waste.” Logos at the bottom include Beat Plastic Pollution, World Environment Day, UN Environment Programme, and 2025 Jeju Korea.

Have you done anything for Earth Hour today?

FireFlower Games @fireflowergames.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

The theme for the 2025 World Water Day is glaciers and the preservation of them. And for Earth Hour we encourage you to do something good for our planet for 60 minutes (or more) today. Maybe something related to water and glaciers? It's up to you.

We are running a campaign (fireflowergames.com/sales) (March 19-23) called "Chill, Play, Preserve" to raise awareness for sustainability issues and the environment. This time it coincides with World Water Day (www.un.org/en/observanc...) and Earth Hour (www.earthhour.org), that happens today.

But I would of course want to see more green data centers and that we make our consumption more and more efficient so the environmental footprint becomes lower and lower.

000

FireFlower Games @fireflowergames.bsky.social · 21/03/2025

I did even more checking and one AI generated image consumes ~0.5-1.2 liters of water, compared to for example the production of 1 sheet of A4 paper (10 liters) or a google search (~0.14 liters). Some of the human water consumption when creating an image should probably also be taken into account?

FireFlower Games @fireflowergames.bsky.social · 21/03/2025

Are cave paintings (like in the stone age) and similar, the only kind of climate neutral image creating method?

010

FireFlower Games @fireflowergames.bsky.social · 20/03/2025

We should of course still try to lower our carbon footprint everywhere.

000

FireFlower Games @fireflowergames.bsky.social · 20/03/2025

I did a check and a basic image created by a human on a tablet and sent by email to a recipient has a carbon footprint of ~5-50 CO², while a basic AI generated image has a footprint of ~20 CO². So an AI created image might actually not be worse for the environment than a human image.

Yeah, thanks :) Hard to know about everything, and I will most likely make more mistakes in the future, but I also learn from them. It was interesting to learn more about this tech today.

I dont want to delete it know, could look like I try to cover up something and I dont want to do that. I make mistakes and that is fine and I want to be transparent. There was a good discussion in the post as well.

About my previous post. Thanks everyone for making me aware that most current data centers that handlas AI generated content (and maybe other content as well?) are not sustainable atm. There are green data centers though (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_d...). Hope there will be more of them.
