Voracious reader. Politics junkie. Senior woman lacing up my HOKAs and preparing to resist. . .again. Sigh.

Same. (And also because I’m determined to do what I can to maximize my chances of outlasting this regime.)

My deep condolences. No matter how much time we have with them, it’s never enough.

Thank you for your research and for educating/reminding us that Black history is American history.

I can only dream about 4.46/gal gas. In my town just south of San Francisco, regular is well above 6. Even Costco 2 days ago was 5.89–not checking to see what it is today.

I started reading romance a couple of years ago, & stick to gay/nonbinary ones. I’m lucky to have discovered Cat Sebastian, Casey McQuisten, & Alexis Hall, all terrific prose stylists & create well-plotted stories with excellent characters. (Tal—I greatly enjoy your writing and books, too!)

I don’t trust them to regulate themselves—not while there’s money/power/ego involved—but I take seriously their sudden bout of self-awareness & warnings (shades of Oppenheimer). If AI does damage the water supply/electric grid/$ markets, etc, oligarchs can’t survive any more than the rest of us can.

Fewer than half of 2024 American voters voted for this—but ultimately the racists/misogynists/hatemongers/greedophiles/ignoramuses looking forward to other people being hurt won the day. Poor things are shocked that they are suffering, too.

Imagine how delusional he has to be to look at the current state of the DoD and think, I’ve done such a successful job that the country wants me for president.

As long as we’re doing fantasy geography, how about (as others have suggested) we start calling one Lake Trump-Epstein, and a different one Lake Obama Superior?

Suggested Great Lakes name changes I’ve heard from other people: Lake Trump-Epstein, and Lake Obama Superior

I read it when it was first published (yeah, I’m old) and reread it last year—it holds up, it’s hilarious, it’s moving, and it is wonderful.

But but but GOP science says that sanctions and tariffs will get the wind to stop sending smoke our way. It stands to reason that sanctioning clouds and the sun will stop the rain and heat. Why won’t Democrats agree to try these common sense remedies?
000
Fiorsbud @fiorsbud.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Are you saying that GOP science has holes in it—holes big enough for, say, wind carrying smoke to sneak through?
031
Fiorsbud @fiorsbud.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Because we all know that wind responds to punishment. Every time you think the GOP could not get any stupider. . .

We don’t have any control over anything the PO does. I mailed an ordinary first class letter from CA on July 3rd—and it was delivered in New Jersey on July 16th! Wouldn’t be hard for the regime to hold up ballots until well past the time limit in any state.

Asking a witness if he’s (pejorative) is not an effective way of proving that he is in fact (pejorative). Better wld be to cite specific valid complaints that the CFPB has ignored or dismissed & ask him to justify decisions. Great if cld link those decisions & companies to donations to the regime.

I read pretty much any genre. (Gay romance is a big favorite. Would love to know some of your favorite authors.) If she narrows it down, I might be able to recommend something.

I read it. It pointed out flaws in how I (I’m not alone here) was thinking about AI, explanations that make AI less existentially scary, more infuriating, a type of hyped-up scam, & more potentially controllable. Doctorow’s analysis of who wins/who loses & who controls/who is controlled is terrific

I love the Oxford comma. I’ll take semi-colons in small doses only. 😁

I read Mrs Dalloway for the first time just recently. I didn’t particularly enjoy the process of reading it (massive overuse of semi-colons drive me crazy; use a period for goodness sakes!) but I am very very glad I did read it. Incisive & beautiful characterizations of people you could know.

Any candidate for the SCt put forth by Dems has to be willing to state that cases decided by the Extremes concerning race, gender, civil liberties, civil rights, immigration, and executive power will be viewed suspiciously and not automatically be considered as precedent.

Lack of evidence in the files that he did rape or traffic kids doesn’t prove that he did not in fact do those things. It merely means that the files themselves don’t contain any evidence suggesting he did. (His & minions’ actions suggest there’s something in there he really doesn’t want revealed.)

Sherrod Brown & Jon Ossoff. Amy Klobuchar, Xavier Becerra, & Deb Haaland. Governor races are extremely important, as are state legislature & state Supreme Court races. Even if Ds win the Senate & House, while felon 47 is in office democracy has its best chance of survival in the states.

My cats, working together, knocked a thawing turkey off the top of a refrigerator and were chomping away at it when I came into the kitchen. Those same cats another time knocked a tv off a shelf, smashing it. That time they at least looked guilty. You aren’t missing anything.

Explain to me how gerrymandering in order to both maximize white electoral chances and minimize minority electoral chances is not racial gerrymandering. Explain it to me like I’m one of the white conservacons (plus Thomas) on the court.

You wanna slow your reading down? Try Mrs Dalloway. I swear this Virginia Woolf book has magic involved: for every 30 pages I struggle through, another 30 pages gets tacked onto the end. I'm never gonna finish the damn thing. It’s slowed my reading census from about 6 books a month to this one.
