Drama for the day: came downstairs to get lunch, to find a robin hurtling about! Managed to open windows and doors front and back, and eventually it found its way out. Poor little thing was quite distressed so of course there's poop everywhere. But I'm very happy it's back outdoors where it belongs!

Went to the bird art exhibition at Rheged (near Penrith) the other day and were blown away. Lots of great art but also legends, poetry, facts, photographs... Fascinating and inspiring and well worth the £3 entry fee. I sketched these little birdies at Blackwell, but I thought I’d use them anyway!

Thanks to Heritage Open Days for giving us a fascinating visit to Grade 1 Listed Borwick Hall this morning. Part dating (possibly!) from the 1320s, it's an absolute maze of rooms, passages, staircases, odd corners, chimneys, more staircases, and a possibly haunted room at the top of the tower!!

No more welly boot stands! Yesterday I was back to my comfort zone of Lake District scenery, thanks to a lovely sketching session with two friends at the Pier cafe at Waterhead (the head of Windermere). Nice coffee, friendly staff, good company, wonderful views - a super morning all round! ❤️

Had a smashing night out in Kendal last night - Thai meal at Bangkok 7 followed by Moving Pictures (Rush tribute band) at Brewery Arts. I'm reliably informed by OH that they were very, VERY good!

I just donated to the RNLI. I give a lot to charity; that one isn't usually on my list but I've been so utterly horrified by the vitriol being poured out against them that I wanted to show my solidarity. Saving lives anywhere, but especially at sea, shouldn't be politicised by anyone.

My second ever attempt at drawing sheep (a couple of Herdwicks photographed in Keswick) by hand. Not perfect (I swear they moved when I wasn't looking, lol) but they have a certain charm... Hoping to do a pen-and-wash style thing with watercolour soon so watch this space.

We had a couple of errands in Keswick yesterday and combined it with a walk down to the lake (Derwentwater) and a mooch round the market. Everywhere is still dryer than normal, but it was lovely to see water in some of the big waterfalls again.

Spot the sheep!! A slightly crap photo of my latest watercolour, of a scene in Coppermines Valley, Coniston that I photographed earlier this year. I used blue pastel paper because I happened to have a small piece left over and just, well, because... I'm quite pleased with the photobombing Herdwick!

Teeny tiny sketch of the Bronze Age stone circle at Birkrigg from our weekend walk. It was hard to do the foreground as in between the stones is just short, sheep-cropped grass. You'll see we had to have lunch out as the holiday traffic was so bad (like, 40 minute delays). Such a hardship. ;)

Super walk at Birkrigg Common near Ulverston this morning - moorland, limestone pavement, a stone circle, amazing views of Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland fells. Coming back, we got slightly lost in a maze of narrow lanes and I fell in love with these gorgeous old farm buildings so grabbed a photo.

I was too nervous to try watercolours on my latest drawing. So, wimp that I am, I scanned it, printed it out on ordinary computer paper, and used the watercolours on that. And... I'm surprised... because it's come out much better than I expected. Might give me confidence to tackle the original!
