After a long swim away, this dolphin is finally swimming back into Finnley’s Audio Adventures. This time I’m trying something a little different: a reel-to-reel tape I found on eBay. I’m keeping the recording itself a surprise for now, but I think it’ll make for an interesting little audio adventure

A vintage Roberts 1630 reel-to-reel tape recorder playing on a table, with two clear tape reels mounted on top and its illuminated meter glowing. An articulated overhead camera or lighting arm extends above the recorder, positioned for recording the machine in operation.

Getting a new video ready. Strapping in for the “long haul” while I wait for it to encode then upload.

A computer screen displays a video editing timeline in Adobe Premiere Pro. Multiple image files labeled “TR_02.png” to “TR_11.png” are shown in the upper track, with a video file named “20250419_133502.mp4” on the middle track and a green audio waveform below. A pop-up window in the center reads “Encoding 20250419_133502” with a progress bar showing 10% complete and an estimated time remaining of 9 minutes, 25 seconds.

@richards7370.bsky.social music challenge #5Albums50s60s1 Hawaiian Holiday by Kaiwaza This album exemplifies mid-century fascination of tropical escapism and stands as a unique intersection of budget-label production and high-tech experimentation with 35mm magnetic film recording.

Album cover for Hawaiian Holiday by Wyncote Records. The design features a ukulele adorned with two pink flower leis arranged in a heart shape, set against a solid black background. At the top, bold text reads “35mm Film – The Best in Recorded Sound” and “STEREO,” emphasizing the album’s unique recording format.

Ever seen a record shaped like this? Looks like Texas is spinning up some tunes! And if you hear a little background noise, that’s just more records getting a good scrub in the ultrasonic bath. Fresh finds for future episodes of Finnley’s Audio Adventures!
