something about this seems very wrong
a certain touch based jp arcade rhythm game running on macos through wine and crossover.

yeah, that's fair. i was more shooting at pnw since i heard someone recently say how to get them cheap over there.

Finfet @finfet.sh · 14h
yeah i haven't looked at hm directly yet. they used to be $1.2k iirc. i'm totally down to buy one at full price since i'll use it so much and it'll last like a decade or more, but i always see people saying they get one for like $300 and then I immediately start second guessing that price.

i need to find a aeron for cheap somewhere. this junky ikea chair is not great. i don’t live in the PNW though so i don't have a never ending cycle of dying startups to supply them :/

assuming you mean just async/await (you can do concurrency in python a bunch of different ways): this source isn't bad. walking up through generators is how it clicked for me a long time ago. i've never found a good book about python concurrency though. nothing like what rust async has afaik.

yeah it was a wine docs site and safari. i assumed i just rolled a bad crypto rng, but if two separate people have seen the same issue, that’s not great.

if you can't tell current gaze the yellow dot. the only keys i'm using are right trigger for click and b for back. accuracy is terrible, it drifts even with calibration, and it kinda hurts my eyes to use it, so i'll probably just wait till someone else comes in and does it better (if they can idk).

poorly working gaze tracking on steam frame. i've had it for less than a day. god i love mostly open hardware/software

ssh'ing into a vr headset and running programs while wearing it feels like working on the engine of a car while driving it.

posted from a laptop with the frame on and using the arcturus camera, which while not perfect, is actually usable to see text. i've never used a quest so i can't compare it.

early impressions: steam frame is very cool. very annoying with my glasses though. the zenni inserts sold out in less than a day so i guess i get to snipe that sometime

installing anubis is the same as a store that suddenly has too much foot traffic and instead of redesigning the layout, moving, or hiring more employees, they hired someone to stand at the door and punch every customer in the gut in hopes that the weak ones leave.

yep. my biggest issue is just how defeatist it is. every website maintainer just learned that they've been vulnerable to a fairly simple ddos-shaped issue. rather than solving that, they decided to run malware on the user's machine and hope the problem will go away in the future.

Finfet @finfet.sh · 29/09/2026
if you run a website that is so unoptimized that it requires this level of anubis, you should not be running a website at all. we have technologies to handle the increased scraping load (which is very real). admitting defeat by making it a shit experience for regular people is an awful idea.

just ran into an anubis that took over a minute to run. this shit is genuinely awful for the internet.

yeah gleam is really cool and is a hobby language probably I’ll pick up again soon. the gleam syntax is awesome. for work stuff though, go is the more responsible pick. i’d love to use gleam at work though.

Finfet @finfet.sh · 28/09/2026
i should get over myself and start using go. its the productivity of python i like, but compiled. the syntax sucks though

okay well brokenithm is pretty jank, but this is actually kinda wild how well it works. it's basically all undocumented but throwing codex at it basically fixed every major issue i can see. testing this out with the ipad i already own is very doable

ah okay. the us storehouse has been oos over the last few weeks unfortunately. idk when their last restock even was. i might just roll the dice and hope it doesn’t get stuck in customs.

yeah i just went through the process of getting data running on windows and it wasn't awful, minus all the translating. getting it running on wine is probably possible with an open model how long did the controller take to get to you? i hear best case of a few weeks and worst case a few months.

playing sdvx data just makes me want to buy a tasoller plus to be able to play chunithm data. but that price + shipping though...

yeah i wouldn't be surprised if they add it themselves down the road. the view from the default pass-through looks high quality enough to parse gestures from. if not, the arcturus camera is available. i get mine next week and definitely plan on digging into what's easily open to hook into.

Finfet @finfet.sh · 26/09/2026
i wonder if it'll be possible to add gaze + finger gesture navigation to the steam frame without any new hardware additions the mono cameras might be an issue, but you can technically add a new downwards facing camera module as a way around that.

just don't remove it from your cart. apparently that kicks you out of the reservation and support wasn’t helping get it back for people, last I saw at least.

idk why i slept on goodbye, lara. this show is really well animated and so pretty. also the music is perfect definitely feels like kinema citrus went all out for their 15th anniversary here

i guess this was just me realizing the bitter lesson, but maybe less about the compute part and more on removing biases and human judgement.

every so often, i think about the alphatensor paper from years ago not going to say it was revolutionary or that the results are relevant now, but the process of reshaping the problem to be more amenable to training was a bit of realization for me.

somewhere at google, a middle manager is fuming about how millions of people spend >$1k on macbook then only use google products on it, but no one is buying their >$1k chromebooks that they keep trying and failing to make.

having multiple vcs and work tracking systems that all have no connection with each other is maybe the dumbest mismanagement you can have at a large company

i was wondering why that post seemed to be exploding. good luck 🫡

i did not realize the new 2hu was a remake of th06. i suck at these games but the th06 music is so good that i might just suffer through it to jam out

16" macbooks are almost painful to use. the keyboard is inset so far that you basically have to slice your wrist on the edge of the laptop whenever you use it.

Finfet @finfet.sh · 24/09/2026
eh, i sometimes have the opposite opinion. i work with some very annoying external vendors. biggest problem is dealing with their instability and awful data formats.

new frontier model. time for people to say its incredible for a week then hate it for no discernible reason.

infinitely jealous of the people who have the space and money to buy full rhythm game cabs for at home.
010
Finfet @finfet.sh · 22/09/2026
yeah that's probably part of it. it might also be directly interacting with the framebuffer or skipping parts of the pipeline to get a lower latency.
010
Finfet @finfet.sh · 22/09/2026
lol yeah i was confused at why they were doing this but then the "steam remote play at home" thing made it make sense. i have no idea what "makes use of the vulkan api" means for a streaming codec but the rest of it seems good. just don't let it leave your network or go over wifi
