Why would I ever want to work in an office 😻 #CatsOfMastodon
Our tabby cat Hobbes lies stretched out on a yellow blanket, his belly exposed. The background features a grey sofa and a chair with a light-coloured throw, under soft, warm lighting. Here Hobbes has changed his posture slightly and curled his left paw over his face. He just looks adorable.

Copy and paste 😻😻 #CatsOfMastodon
Our two cats Dora, a tabby with white paws and a white belly, and Hobbes, our tabby tiger lie on a tiled floor in exactly the same position: on their right side with their back paws towards the left, their right front paws out front and their left front paw tucked back. They’re slightly turned at an angle but otherwise almost look like copy-and-pasted via image outline selection.

My tabby Hobbes is lying next to me on the sofa arm rest where I usually keep my mouse. My hand is resting on his side just like it would on a mouse.

As we’re approaching summer and the days are getting warmer, it’s important to keep your cats in appropriate containers or they’ll spill on your carpet when they turn liquid. #Caturday #CatsOfMastodon
Our tabby Hobbes is overflowing his cat basket with only his rear still in the basket while his head and shoulders rest on the carpet. He somehow makes it look comfortable when I just get a backache from looking at it!

Ok, final one, the one I'll run with for now. “For this Mac" + AMD FSR + full native resolution 3024x1980: 107 fps. #MacBook #Cyberpunk
121 2
Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
Actually, the difference was that I'd turned on AMD FSR frame generation. Re-running the very first test on power gives the same result. It's all consistent. I though the presets include FSR but it seems that changing the overall setting does not reset the FSR setting. #MacBook #Cyberpunk

Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
Indeed, this does seem to throttle a bit when on battery but not as drastically as in the very first post. So I'm guessing the 45 fps I got there were due to background activity post-setup. #MacBook #Cyberpunk
120 2
Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
Hold on - it makes a huge difference whether this is on power or not. Or maybe something was still running in the background on the first test. I just reran the Raytracing Ultra settings and I'm getting 77 fps now. #MacBook #Cyberpunk

Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
Same as the previous post + AMD FSR 3.1 frame generation: 145 fps. This thing is a GPU monster. #MacBook #Cyberpunk
120 2
Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
With the “For this Mac” preset + Vsync off it's a solid 85 fps - and I’d need a side-by-side to see quality differences. This is at 2294x1432 resolution by the way, so very crisp. No frame generation. This is probably what I'd play at if I wanted to run another play through. #MacBook #Cyberpunk

Sven A. Schmidt @finestructure.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/03/2026
I’m happy to report that the M5 Max #MacBook Pro with 40 GPU cores runs #Cyberpunk at max Raytracing settings at a solid 45 fps and looks fantastic (on battery, will retest on power, although I don't expect it to make a difference).

The queen will see you now #CatsOfMastodon
Dora, our tabby with white paws, a white belly and chin, is residing on our couch table (yes, but that battle has long been lost as the sofa is the same height and how do you explain that to yourself let alone a cat).

Anyway, she’s on the couch table on a beige cushion, her front paws comfortably curled. She looks very regal, as she does.

In the background there’s a bit of blue sky with a couple of clouds and the the green hillside of the park our winter garden is facing.

OrbStack is getting better and better. If you're using #docker on a #Mac, use OrbStack.
OrbStack is a proper Mac app - not an electron app. It has all the bells and whistles of a Docker install, including a list of running and stopped containers, images, volumes viewable as you’d expect via a sidebar and middle pane.

The container detail view lets you see container info, the logs, launch a terminal and access the containers files.

Here, the logs view is active, showing the logs of a postgres container. This second screenshot shows the terminal (ghostty) for that same container. It’s super easy to launch a shell for debugging.

So French telecom provider #Bouygues has had a data breach (contact details, contractual data, civil status data or company data if you are a professional, as well as IBANs). They're really sorry and they’ve set up a web page and a phone number you can call […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Our cats Dora, Chips, and Hobbes are spread out on the bed in various poses of sleep gymnastics. Dora is lying on her back with all four paws stretched out. So which tab is active? Can you even see that there are two tabs? Everything's some sort of pill without much of a hierarchy. Or at least I find it super hard to see any hierarchy with the "light shades of grey” approach. It's all a whiteish soup 😕 #macOS26 #Xcode26

Haven't really played yet but #Cyberpunk2077 looks great on the #Mac and the benchmark shows solid numbers:
In game benchmark shows 140fps on average with a low of 116fps.

This is with FSR frame gen at 2560x1440 resolution. It was the default setting for my machine (M2 MacStudio) except for FSR, which I enabled.

I appreciate that live activities show up on my #Mac now in #macOS 26 but the UI looks a bit rough 😬
Screenshot of a Deliveroo live activity. The text in the menu bar item is truncated to “13:1…” - while there is enough space between the app icon on the left and the text on the right to show more of it.

The popup menu item itself also has poor layout. The call to action button “Track your rider” is shown without any padding and it looks awkward.

I really don’t like the bigger rounded rect radius in #macOS 26 and it looks particularly out of place next to “normal” rounded rect radii.
A view of Xcode’s bottom bar with the file filter text field showing a larger rounded rect radius in the “new” macOS 26 style, while the debug pane filter text field shows the “normal” rounded rect style, the one we’re used to from macOS 15.

I've had the need recently to compare benchmarks between runs with different configurations, like you see in the first screenshot. While it's probably (in this case) rather easy to tell which run is faster, I also created graphs for the runs initially. (1/3)
The sample input data. It contains extra log lines as well as the measurement, which themselves are on lines with extra output. The resulting graph of the two series that were parsed out of the input data. They are labelled "Series 0" and "Series 1" and shown with blue and green dots, respectively.

In this visual repforthtation, you can see that Series 0 has faster run times, except for one outlier in the forth iteration.

Ok, the ports issue is understood now. From the services docs: docs.github.com/en/actions/use-case… Since I'm running the job in a container, none of the port re-mapping that I'm doing has any effect. #docker
Running jobs in a container

When you run jobs in a container, GitHub connects service containers to the job using Docker's user-defined bridge networks. For more information, see Bridge network driver in the Docker documentation.

Running the job and services in a container simplifies network access. You can access a service container using the label you configure in the workflow. The hostname of the service container is automatically mapped to the label name. For example, if you create a service container with the label redis, the hostname of the service container is redis.

You don't need to configure any ports for service containers. By default, all containers that are part of the same Docker network expose all ports to each other, and no ports are exposed outside of the Docker network.
