Pet peeve that I see so frequently now: telling new potters they don't have to poke a pinhole in hollow pieces to avoid explosions. Technically true! It is possible to fire a hollow piece without blowing it up - but it is far LESS likely to blow up with a hole. "Poke a hole" is still good advice.

Non potters often suggest kintsugi - a Japanese process of "mending" ware with lacquer and gold. Most potters? not interested. It's way more expensive & time consuming than just making another piece - one that will be functional. Kintsugi is for items that have sentimental value. Not random bowls.
