All you can eat made to order sushi at a brand new place (soft open) means it was like 5 minutes for my order was put in to get to me. $20 to get in the door for lunch is awesome too. Sushi was fine and the cuts were normal so I consider this a win.

Film 9: Bohachi Bushido Code of the Forgotten 8 (Teruo Ishii 1973) Not intentional that I’m doing back to back Teruo Ishii films but I am having a rough time and just want something not emotionally impactful.

Film 8: Female Yakuza Tale Inquistion and Torture (Teruo Ishii 1973) So I really liked previous Teruo Ishii horror films. Really innovative stuff. Let's see how this spiritual follow up to the previous Reiko Ike film I watched.

Film 7: Teenage Yakuza (Seijun Suzuki 1962) My first real left field pick this year. Felt like doing something not particularly serious and not particularly well known so went into one of my many Arrow Seijun Suzuki sets to get what sounds like a pretty lighthearted romp.

Film 6: Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance (Toshiya Fujita 1974) Another film I've seen before but remember very little about. I do remember having a good time with it.

Film 5: Tale of Zatoichi Continues (Kazuo Mori 1962) Second one of these. This is definitely a first time watch. I am always amazed at how quick they punch out serialized Japanese films as this released in theaters just six months after the first one.

Film 4: Tale of Zatoichi (Kenji Misumi 1962) Jumping into a rewatch of the first Zatoichi film. Will not be the only one I hit this month. Additionally, I am going to go in release order. I think I’ve only seen one or two of these but I have the big box Criterion put out a while back.

Film 3: Lady Snowblood (Toshiya Fujita 1973) That good good shit. Meiko Kaji is the best. Might also sit down with the manga by Kazuo Koike over the long weekend. Seen this one and the sequel many times. Good stuff.

Film 2: Sex and Fury (Teruo Ishii 1973) Tonal whiplash. I have loved what I've watched of Teruo Ishii films before and Reiko Ike is a queen. Not what I originally picked for my second movie but having just found out something is a sequel this is the move.

Film 1: Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954) I always start off these types of watches with something big. While Seven Samurai isn't my favorite Kurosawa film, I'd argue it's his most well-known. It has been a hot minute since I've what Toshiro Mifune and the boys are up to so this will be fun.

Samurai September Thread. I'm going to watch what averages out to one Samurai/Chanbara or a Yakuza film each day in September. While it does not have to be Japanese most films will be. I've gotten a lot of great suggestions so I'm pinning this thread so you can follow along. Looking forward to it.

Without question, Tim Curry was the focal point of the best TV Movie/miniseries of all time. The "It" miniseries was just generationally scarring for me, and I imagine tons of other 90s kids. Rest in Peace Tim

So sad to share this news but the King of Asshole mountain will soon be dethroned. My wonderful cat Oli has been having a lot of health problems and I think next week I will finally say good bye. Spent nearly 18 years with this guy. Real special cat.
