I am seeing a lot of "software engineers are over" kind of posts on my timeline. Real engineers will still thrive imo, it's the best time to be one but If your strongest asset was knowing the syntax of a framework, you're fucked.

The term is on point and I've seen it happening in pretty much every org - an employee that feels empowered by AI thinking he/she is moving the needle by doing 10x more with AI while in reality producing slop that only adds work for others. The most important skill is knowing how "good" look like.

People talk a lot about building products with AI, but I think we don't talk enough about using AI to replace imperative workflows. There is so much potential for things like extensibility, project scaffolding, etc. Hundreds of ifs can just retire!

Two days of tests and I like it a lot! Properly setting up global/project instructions is a game-changer. You can bake in all conventions, context etc there which makes AI suggestions 10x better. UI is also nicer than in Cursor. Though I wouldn't say any available editor is noticeably better.

Experimental support for external sources (git/npm) just landed in @astro.build Layers package 🚀 I think all that I have left before releasing a stable version is better handling of file additions/deletions. It's a bit clunky rn. Sounds like a good plan for the evening. github.com/filrak/astro...

I kinda miss when we just had full SSR, full CSR and lazy/optional hydration. This was peak complexity vs flexibility ratio. Everything after that (esp server components) seems like an overengineered solution both for the app and infra.

Ok, the initial version of @astro.build layers is working 🚀 It's my first time writing a @vite.dev plugin, so it took longer than I thought, but we're almost there with the MVP functionality. Claude Sonnet turned out to be an excellent support in debugging the issues.
