Damn, what a selection! All top draw. If they threw in Phenomena, it would have been perfect! Was this in London?

No argument from me, nor DC vs. Marvel rubbish. (But I'll die on the hill that the Snyder cut was good). Doomsday hype is definitely a thing because they're doing what they should have done back in 2020! Instead, we got stuff like Love and Thunder 🤣

130

Film Utopia @filmutopiapod.bsky.social · 4h

Generous. It was definitely an improvement over the previous few years of dross, though.

Nah, it's all good! I already knew about Stiller showing up in various roles. I'm about halfway through and have so far concluded this would make an excellent double-bill with Repo Man.

Yeah, I've added stuff from your posts to my watchlist as well! Between you and @horrorposterguy1.bsky.social, that list is pretty epic now! Bava Jr. has some absolute bangers, though. You should definitely check out Demons if you haven't yet.

Are you going to deep-dive Lamberto Bava's other films?

Yeah, ED2 is the prime candidate.

I'm still trying to decide if it's my favourite of the entire franchise. Looking forward to discussing it with my co-hosts this Halloween!

Film Utopia @filmutopiapod.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

So, I've got ask. What did you make of the flying head? 😂

130

Film Utopia @filmutopiapod.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

Honestly, as gross as it sounds, it was probably a zit that you didn't know you had, on the back of your neck or something, that just burst during the night. I know it's hard not to think of the worst case scenario, but it's usually something simple rather than horrific.

Film Utopia @filmutopiapod.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

I was always surprised that The Burning never got a sequel

#NW Army of Darkness (1992) Dir. Sam Rami Ash Williams gets votexed into the Middle Ages and accidentally unleashes a skeleton apocalypse, before solving the problem with chainsaws, shotguns, questionable chemistry, and enough medieval misogyny to make a crusader blush. #EveryNightIsMovieNight

There's also a 4th adaptation called The Invasion from 2007, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. I've not seen it, but I did watch the '93 one years ago. I remember thinking it was ok at the time, but it didn't leave a lasting impact like Kaufman's 1978 masterpiece.

I'd never have guessed for a second that you'd be a metalhead, Clinton. 🤔

130

Film Utopia @filmutopiapod.bsky.social · 30/08/2026

What I will say in its favour is it's only 1hr 25min long and it just gets on with it. It's a very 'snappy' film and holds your attention well. It doesn't give you a chance to think too much about its shortcomings. I don't regret seeing it at all.

Farewell to the magnificent Tim Curry, 1946 - 2026, who lit up our screens for decades, bringing to life some of our favourite characters. He will be sadly missed by us all here at Film Utopia. Thank you for the movies, Mr. Curry. 🙏
