Right, it’s like how you learn the limit definition of a derivative before you learn the shortcuts so you know what it actually means.

And the thing is like, I’m not a supervisor so I have these high level visions that I have no ability to task someone with executing. I’m not taking work from anyone, because nobody was doing this. I couldn’t convince my supervisors this vision was the way to go, until I could just show them.

I’m intensely wary of and cognizant of places where an ability I have might atrophy, I worry about that a lot, but so far that’s why I’ve used it to complement deep knowledge of the data I’m manipulating and strategic views about what to do with it.

I straight up don’t believe that article about a study going around about how using AI for ten minutes makes you give up on anything hard. In my experience it has given me an ability to execute on things where I had systems analysis level vision without programmer level ability.

“Subjects screwed in fewer screws during the portion of the assessment directly after we took their power drill and left them with only a screwdriver.” Yeah no shit.

And that’s not me handing over the problem and taking credit for results. That’s me having a deep knowledge of data and spotting when it makes mistakes and fine tuning but having it help with grinding mechanical aspects. It made me *way more* likely to persist.

I started out extremely skeptical and work has pushed it hard and I’ve found lots of places to put it additively into my workflows and it has very much enhanced what I’ve produced, particularly the stuff that requires coding (which I’m bad at) where I would otherwise have given up.

“Touching AI once for as long as it takes to watch a commercial makes you give up on anything hard ever.” No it doesn’t. That’s not true.

This headline is insanely broad for what looks like a much much much much narrower result than anybody would have thought even viewing the study skeptically.

Yes! Like all of this is markedly different from his first administration. His rallies are lower energy and even more rambly and slurry and he just sits there and naps with his droopy mouth while his viziers do the presidenting.

He was always a liar and he’s still a liar and ever since he’s been in the political eye for the last ten years he’s never been incredibly sharp or disciplined, but it’s much much worse now than even a handful of years ago.

It’s seriously worth watching a clip of Trump even just from 2020 if you have some doubt about how much he’s declined since then. And I don’t even mean to make a diagnosis at a distance. I mean he’s slower and slurrier and demonstrably less able to think on his feet.

My Lai Massacre-ass administration. Between this and retaliating against any FBI agents who worked on the Trump cases, they’re trying to set the precedent that doing the right thing ever at all will be punished.

Also feel like this helps not just boost Ossoff in the race, but associate Mike Collins’s specific name with Nazism and racism. Like when people in Georgia see an ad that has “I’m Mike Collins and I approve this message” at the end, they’ll be like “Mike Collins? The Nazi???”

I’ve never seen one, seen like 93%, but I’ve seen videos of people basically losing control of their emotions and senses while one is happening, and I have no reason to believe everyone I’ve seen is faking it.

Memnoch’s argument is that in remaining both human and divine, Jesus did not fully commit to the human experience.

And I very much do not mean the “this guy’s stuff is not for me” posts. I mean the “this guy has never made anything worth putting in my eyeholes except apparently I did put all of it into my eyeholes because I have lots of opinions about why all of it is bad.”

The thing in this case, for me, is the works of Mike Flanagan. I haven’t seen Carrie (not in a particular rush) and I haven’t adored all of his stuff, but a lot of it hit me in a deeply personal way, and I don’t know why so many seem to have it in for the guy.

Everything is not for everyone and that’s totally fine and I would never try to force someone to be into something they’re not into, but also it feels bad to like a thing and have several friends whose whole schtick is “this thing is fucking horrible and only idiots like it.”

Just realized that the critique at the center of Pulp’s “Common People” is the same as the title character’s critique of Jesus in Anne Rice’s Memnoch the Devil: “if you called your dad, he could stop it all.”

Thinking about an iterated prisoner’s dilemma where cooperating or defecting doesn’t just change your opponent’s behavior next time, but the table of punishments and rewards itself.

Samuel Wurzelbacher! I also remember after Joe the Plumber they tried, much less successfully, to roll out Tito the Builder.

Trump is in a position where his strategic interests are very obviously served by just shutting the fuck up for a bit except he’s not capable.

Personally I love that Trump is publicly shitting on Tom Cotton as he’s running for reelection and the only thing he could do that’s worse for him is publicly celebrate him.

The courts that forced Biden to retain this Trump policy are complicit here and this should be more ammunition to reform them root and branch.

If this holds then it would mean Hispanics probably compose a larger share of the electorate than in 2024 and also that they swing against Trump by huge margins. Either is bad for republicans, together it’s disastrous.

Anyway, declining to do enforcement in wards and districts where politicians don’t do what you want is election interference and coercion and the barest hint of it should be grounds for dismissal of anybody who approved it but instead it’s just standard practice.

I’m not at all convinced this is true. It may be but there’s also huge risks to going to the public and being like “the armed men theoretically under my control are actually not.”

Politicians can’t admit this even though it’s plainly true. I think it also was going on with ICE at least at the outset of Biden’s presidency and probably all throughout it. There was lots of noise about them going rogue at the beginning and then it died down but nothing about redress.

Repeating my sotto voce refrain that I think we are very soon going to have to deal with the plain (but seldom spoken) fact that police are simply not under the control of the political leadership who command them on paper.
