Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Just completed, after quite a dilemma over what size and material the stand base should be (clearly Goshawks are opinionated about these things!). She/he (colour shifting Lamberts glass) is available immediately, DM for details. But, y’know, I’m not in a hurry… #stainedglass #goshawk 0161
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Thanks John - painting the blossoms to keep this glass piece light and airy… clear baroque glass andPebeo 160, a mixture of translucents and outliner (for texture) 010
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 18/02/2026Outside it is snowing loudly sideways. Inside, the studio is lit with spring… 171
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Yesterday I was reminded of this #art piece I was commissioned to make a few years ago, extending the boundaries of stained #glass by setting Little Grebes (aquatic #bird species) in an open-edge panel to represent the habitat where they are most free… Should I make more like this? 1221
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Would you mind my posting a picture or two? I won’t tag you (unless you’d like me to of course) but I’m working on ideas for a couple of other ‘edgeless’ pieces at the moment 🤔 110
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Lovely to hear from you! Thank you so much - I was just looking at my photos of the grebes a couple of days ago, and wondering how they were getting on 😀 100
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 21/10/2025Hi Tracey - thank you! The base is Snowdonia slate, from a quarry just outside Blaenau Ffestiniog. I work with a local engineering shop when I need stand armatures, they are very good at shaping weird bits of steel to precise plans 😂 010
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 20/10/2025A joyful moment that never gets old: someone loves my Godwit enough to offer the ultimate accolade to an artist - to take it home! #art is a piece of soul made visible, in metal and stone and #glass. Welcome to my heart-family, unknown friend- and enjoy the effects of light on the glass… 3184
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 10/10/2025If you love #glassart or #birds or are already following my #art (hi and I love you) the SWLA @ Mall galleries opens next week, and my Black-tailed Godwit #sculpture will be there - online preview (sculpture page - scroll down for the Godwit!) here buyart.mallgalleries.org.uk/swla-2025/?_... 0151
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 06/10/2025Thank you so much! I’m looking for a public display opportunity for them, hoping they might help people to see these amazing birds just a little differently… 110
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 05/10/2025Birds in stained glass, freestanding #art or wall sculptures, rarely window panels. My birds are celebrations, explanations, rants and sometimes tears; but like the birds that inspire them, they are all beautiful dancers-with-light… 45612
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 04/10/2025I create birds in stained glass, mostly as freestanding or wall sculptures, rarely as window panels. They may be celebrations, explanations, rants or tears but like the birds that inspire them, they are all beautiful dancers-with-light… 020
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 30/09/2025A few more pictures of “We Were Angels”, just because… 1122
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 29/09/2025Latest kinetic sculpture “We Were Angels” available to buy or exhibit - I love it in my home, but it seems selfish not to offer others the chance to enjoy the light glowing from these birds… 0255
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 13/07/2025Current WIP and a previous super-seabird for #superseabirdsunday 3346
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 28/04/2025Some pieces come together quickly, and some take a few iterations to grow to maturity. The Herring Gulls piece, “We Were Angels”, gathers towards its finale; glowing with a little sunlight as I adjust the hanging points and sight lines to make sure they balance each other. 2142
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 27/12/2024As the Yule (star)dust begins to settle, tomorrow will be a good day to get back into my studio and pick up my stained glass #WIP ‘Urban Angels’ once more. They are still burning in my head and heart and hands, not quite fully materialised just yet… 0110

Just to hammer home how bloody lucky we are to have the NHS and how fiercely we need to protect it. 1673664903

Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 20/11/2024It’s #wrensday and I am in my happy place (the ordered chaos of a #glass studio with -erm- about 3 pieces in development..!). Here’s a contribution to the day (blank greetings cards available!) 1110
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 20/11/2024This stained glass Black-tailed Godwit on a carved slate stand is available. He stands 45cm/18” tall (& just a little more than that toes-to-bill-tip). This pattern will be a numbered edition of 10 (although every #bird is always unique because #glass). DM for price and shipping options. 1459

Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 17/11/2024Thank you! That’s me - never knowingly under-detailed… 😂 010
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 17/11/2024It was huge fun to make - and totally inspired by that *perfect* glass… I was trying for the look and feel of a plate in an old bird guide, those lovely paintings where the birds *just happen* to be showing you all their ID features by accident 😊 010
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 17/11/2024A piece from a couple of years ago - I can’t get the Waxwing glass any more but this was fun to make 😊 311122
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 13/11/2024This sphagnum sink is now heading into its second winter, and I so love the way the mosses change from green to deep maroon as the year chills… 0120
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 11/11/2024In true multitasking style, this weekend involved a lovely long rustling walk (beech leaves and Brambling), design work on a Herring Gull piece, forward planning for a Goshawk piece, design work on an Orchidarium (so I can grow some high-humidity miniature lovelies) and cheesecake. Keto cheesecake. 170
Rachel Taylor @fidhw.bsky.social · 10/11/2024Mostly good, thank you! Science side of work is spectacularly busy right now, but the siren call of the studio gets louder when I’m not here enough. Must. Put. Self. Through. Photocopier..! 110
