Last week at Goatmire I gave an extended lightning talk titled "The Emperor's New Clothes". It will be released as a four-part series, starting with this pilot episode. Special thanks to Iryna Kostiuk for recording it. Enjoy!

Goatmire 2 - Odin's Folly
The horns sound out in the theater. Resonant in a space that predates amplifiers. The drum strikes deeply. I enter the stage in the mist of the smoke machine and green light. I can't see the audience…

@marc-lainez.bsky.social led a fantastic workshop on this. I don't see a good public summary link, but you can figure out quite a bit from the workshop repository at github.com/mlainez/nerv.... People created some really cool apps and hopefully they'll get posted at some point.

Back from Goatmire with tons of energy to plow through the Nerves PR and issues backlog that had accumulated during conference prep. Trying my best to not procrastinate with the BeamBots balance bot or the Nerves Fairphone from the conference, but this will be tough.

There are conferences, and then, there's Goatmire. It was such an incredible experience that I'm struggling to find the words to summarize it. But I'll do my best, and I shall do so without the assistance of an LLM, because this event deserves nothing less 😉

Heading back from Goatmire thinking about how the sequel surpassed the original. So many good talks, but I will never forget goat's journey and all the work and creativity from all involved. Thank you @lawik.bsky.social and conspirators! Thank you @petterbos.bsky.social for capturing my small part.

I read it as referring to the argument that if you're building a thing with an LLM and not looking at code, why do you care about the language. Just pick the one with the lowest cost/token. I have no clue how Elixir fares on this metric and am inferring something else is better.

It's a hard problem. If the maintainers for the projects that you're thinking about are ok with this, then I think what you're doing is awesome and hope this is a good example to other companies.
110
Frank Hunleth @fhunleth.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
I may be running into a different set of unmaintained projects than you. For ones I know, the maintainers used their project at work when they were active and then changed jobs/projects. They may transfer their project to someone they trust, but don't know anyone willing.
110
Frank Hunleth @fhunleth.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
I like these proposals for helping maintainers monetarily. I think they're helpful. Hard part for some maintainers is that they have full-time jobs, and aren't interested in the overhead of tracking time, billing, justifying choices to paying clients, etc. Some people love it. Others code for fun.

Having an in person international or national event in America? Are you weighing factors like lodging and transport? Cool stuff to do? Here's a map to consider if any of your attendees may possibly, even remotely be LGBTQIA. And you care about them.

Sadly, remote doesn't work for this. There's a lot of equipment and shipping around like other embedded jobs isn't possible. Maryland is pretty nice if you're able to relocate.

To the Claude users out there who have Claude send PRs to OSS projects, can I influence it to send minimal PR changes and not write me essays? Examples I can copy would be best. I'm not going to outright reject LLM PRs since I know the people sending them mean well.

One thing I enjoy about OSS are the human relationships. LLMs enabled new people to contribute to my projects. That's positive. I'm also seeing blind copy/paste to and from Claude to PRs in seconds. I know Claude makes it trivial, but I'm in this to work with you even if it's slower and harder.
