International Conference on Research Methods in Gender and Sexuality Studies
19-21 July 2027 · Girona, Spain Organized by the Applied Social Sciences Research Group (CISA) - Universitat de Girona Research on gender and sexuality has grown significantly over recent decades, extending across a wide range of disciplines within the social sciences, humanities, and health sciences. This development has expanded existing frameworks of understanding, opened new spaces for knowledge production, and challenged established academic hegemonies. After several decades of growth and consolidation in queer studies, there remains a need to reflect critically on the very conditions under which this knowledge is produced. While pioneering scholars began to raise methodological questions in the late 1990s and early 2000s, much of the debate has continued to focus on research subjects, objects, and contexts, paying comparatively less attention to the processes through which knowledge itself is generated. Questions such as how we conduct research, from which epistemological and methodological frameworks, through which techniques, with what ethical implications, and with what political effects, continue to invite further discussion and critical reflection. For this reason, it is important to foster a debate on research methodologies that can advance not only the development and recognition of gender and sexuality studies across different disciplines, but also the creation of methodological approaches capable of addressing the specificities of gender and sexuality in intersection with other social dimensions. In this regard, the International Conference on Research Methods in Gender and Sexuality Studies provides a space to share, discuss, and develop methodological strategies for the study of gender and sexuality. The conference aims to enrich research practices while strengthening the ethical and political commitment required to address the challenges of our contemporary socio-historical context.
