Garden Gutiar concert at Rustique went very well. We had a full house (that is not saying much since capacity must be around 25 to 30) and they seemed to enjoy it. Should do more of these....

I forgot to mention here that I did play that concert at Café Palestina and it went very well, contrary to my usual fears about these things (i'll make a mess, forget the music, nobody will turn up, etc). Full house. Half th proceeds go to their charity. I was rel. happy with my playing. All good.

The author of 'Silo' got it right: (to be clear, I do not wish death on anybody, but press and the media really are reading so very wrongly the mood of the many people who have turned the killer into a folk hero. There are very good reasons for this.

As seen in @mondocatto.bsky.social 's FB timeline, from a post by Jess Sherman there. Alas, this is where we are, not just the US of A although they are, particularly now, the foremost exponent.
THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD
immediately. Not explaining science seems to me perverse.
When you're in love, you want to tell the world. This book is a personal statement, reflecting my lifelong love affair with science.
But there's another reason: science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time - when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness. The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and
superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance. As I write, the number one video cassette rental in America is the

The 214 stopped at Kings Cross and I hesitated and eventually got on it. Hesitated because it was an old original Routemaster doing that route. Turns out it was a charity thing for Children in Need and the 'conductor' was a ten year old (or so) boy asking for donations. Almost nobody had change...
Old Routemaster London red bus doing the 214 route as a charity event. Oddly it was marked for route 73 rather than 214.

A friend posted this on FB and it is food for thought in these times.
The Paradox of Tolerance disappears
if you look at tolerance, not as a moral standard, but as a social contract.
If someone does not abide by the terms of the contract, then they are not covered by it.
In other words: The intolerant are not following the rules of the social contract of mutual tolerance.
Since they have broken the terms of the contract, they are no longer covered by the contract, and their intolerance should NOT be tolerated.

This president, this man,
do you think he has ever cooked
a dinner for anyone, baked a batch of cookies for his kids, made deviled eggs for a picnit?
Has he ever driven hours in the rain to help a friend whose car broke down? Helped a neighbor move a heavy piece of furniture? He has five kids.
Did he ever change a diaper? Soothe a crying baby? Feed a dog, plant a garden, or even water a houseplant? Has he worked out a household chore schedule with his college roommates?
Built, made, or repaired anything with his own hands? Sat vigil at the bedside of a dying friend or relative? Sat around a campfire singing folk songs? Worried about how he's going to make rent? Hiked in an old growth forest? Cleaned up after hosting a party Looked in awe upon a work of art? Been moved to tears by music? Lost sleep over the troubles of a friend? Lay on his back outdoors to gaze at the stars? Been in love?
Volunteer his labor to help those less fortunate than himself? Does he even have a scrap of decency
