cleaning and had to peruse Layover Tae again. So intimate, so free.

Photo of a page in the Layover photobook, showing Kim Taehyung peering at himself in a mirror like a young bear recognizing his reflection for the first time.

Photo of Kim Taehyung clutching his dog Yeontan so their cute fluffy heads are side by side.

One shot of Taehyung in a bathroom, with his hands in his hair, super casual and domestic. Another faceless shot of Taehyung sitting with weird art in the background and seeming to converse with a cardboard cut out of a black man in a suit (probably a jazz musician but I can't ID from the bit of face visible)

Closer photo of Taehyung in a blue striped tanktop and his usual style fine chain jewelry. His hair is long (with extensions) and it looks like a candid photo of him thinking mid convo, eyes cast down and to the side and arm raised as if his fingers are running through his hair again.

Over all people in the BTS fandom definitely read WIP. I did a comparison of engagement stata on complete and incomplete works by length and age for BTS fic in the last 6 years and for recent works (up to 1 yr old pink) the hits for WIP are lower but catch up with length. ao3.org/works/765288...

Figure plotting the median hits on BTS fic by age and length, given completeness or wip status. Hits go up with length and grow more with age for complete works than incomplete works.

fyi the breach on Weverse was purchasing information from half a million accounts WITHOUT externally identifying info

Weverse Company added that the exposed internal identification data does not directly identify users, as it does not contain names or contact information. The identifiers are used solely within the company’s internal systems and cannot be used externally, the company said, adding that the exposed information alone is unlikely to enable payment fraud or unauthorized fund transfers.

Just a little JK assessing (alien?!) Tae for the polycule archiveofourown.org/works/73373086

Jungkook knew how to read dick prints. He'd practiced on all of his boyfriends. He was so good at interpreting pant lines and squat creases and swing that he reflexively read the structure of everyone's underwear and could ID each of Yoongi's packers. (Yoongi-hyung sometimes tested him, for fun but also for the supportive feedback. Jungkook was a tried and true ally.) But somehow he couldn't make sense of Taehyung's bulge.

BTSs return rejuvenated this RPF community, and it's easier to see in the daily hits rates. This plot stacks hits per day by fic age and we can see how attention to older works was dropping to nothing before March 20th but has been stable since. Readers returned and are finding what they missed.

Hits per day across BTS fics by finnagain. Spikes show the bust of hits with new works and update. Annotations also show how daily hits to old works were dropping and then have jumped up and remained steady since BTS's return.

Fandom stats update, hits accumulation on my AO3 works as an example. With the numbers i have so far a few things stand out. 1. Fests, so far, don't work for my fics. Maybe its a rarepair issue, but these do better after reveals. 2. Completed works get so much more immediate attention. 3. Arirang!

Hits on BTS fics over 15 months of posting, highlighting the effect of BTS's return (more hits on older works), completion of WIPs (surge of hits) and limited engagement in Fests (fics get more visibility after reveals.)

And my fav green or brown lentil recipe, if you need a lot of flavour and heartiness. It's a soup that i drop tiny pasta in or use less water and eat with bulgur or rice. You might be like 🤔 at the ingredient combination but trust me, it's good! Alt text again for legible recipe and more direction.

Spiced Lentil Mushroom Soup
-1 small onion, diced is ok
-1 tbsp coriander seeds, ground a little or saved for the herb pouch if you don't want to chew them later
-150-250 g mushrooms, cremini or min bella, basic is fine
fry in base of big pot until golden and fragrant
- 1 C brown or green lentils, dry
- 1.5 L water, hot/boiling to speed things up
- bouillion cubes or powder, enough for 1 L soup
- 1 tsp MSG
- 3-5 star anis (in herb pouch if you might forget to take them out)
- 2-4 bay leaves (depending on freshness)
Simmer 15 minutes
- 2 c cabbage or mixed veg cut finely (carrots, celeriac, parsnip if you are feeling wild, add earlier if you want to get them caramelized with the onions and mushrooms)
Simmer 15 minutes more

Serve with grains like bulgur or rice or bread or little noodles.

Great, I'll share a couple of quick meals, and then a few suggestions that include more prep. Beans are better with flavour so I cook them myself on the weekends. 500 g dry (or 1 lb) is more than I can get through in 5 days, so I freeze half for later and can take out different batches mid week.

Legible Basic Black bean recipe
-500 g dry black beans, soak overnight
in big pot:
-1 large onion diced, sauté in big pot with oil
-Add ground spices: 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp oregano 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 2 tsp garlic (or 4 cloves)
-8 c water
-2 bay leaves
Add beans to pot, bring to boil and then simmer half covered for 1 hr
- add 1.5 tsp salt
Simmer until as as soft as you like (depends on beans)
Remove bay leaves, use or store in fridge or freeze for later.

BTS's swim is not the same song, but the hook and several features are quite similar. On the scale of "Inspired by", something remembered rather than copied. And IMO, distinct enough to warrant credit.

Excerpt from court filing, pg 10, showing the melody and accompanying synth in an excerpt of the Swim Demo and the melody and accompanying synth to an excerpt the the chorus from BTS's Swim. They share ambiguous harmonies, the word swim repeated on a descending sixteenth to dotted eighth rhythm and other matching melodic elements.

Before leaving Brussels, I wanted to see how this country was talking about its colonial past and post-colonial present and was very lucky to find the special exhibit at the Museum of European History. Very well curated for such a huge topic! Some of my favourites.

Excerpt of a timeline from 1400 to present of major acts of colonisation and anto colonial resistance

juxtaposition of:
1. colonial propaganda poster to move european/people of european descent into western Canada (as my great grandparents did) after the expulsion of first nations peoples
2. T shirt with historical photograph of armed Native Americans with the ironic text of"Homeland Security, Righting Terrorism since 1492"

Video of the President of Indonesia addressing the 1955 Bandung conference, a meeting of non-european nations and former european colonies, maybe the first gathering of its kind outside of europe.

Pictures of Coloniser statutes splashd with read paint from the 2020 protests, all historical figures long celebrated in europe despite their well documented crimes against humanity through colonial projects. Plus a paint stained bust of Kine Leopold II
