There is a single chicory plant growing in the middle of the horse paddock, so I picked one bloom to give to my handsome husband, @clarkrogers.bsky.social .

I made lunch for myself and husband, @clarkrogers.bsky.social . A quiche using our farm fresh eggs, king oyster mushrooms, and a little white cheese. I had one small piece.

I’m lucky to have found Stephen to be the trainer for my Hackney pony, Hector. When Stephen was 16 y.o., he trained one of my neighbor’s horses to pull a carriage for weddings & parades. There is an advantage to having a trainer who from birth, their daily mode of transportation was horse & buggy!

Yesterday I made my version of Creole (Red) Jambalaya which has tomatoes, unlike Cajun (Brown) Jambalaya. This one has Andouille sausage, shredded chicken and shrimp.

I’ve always loved dapple grey horses although I’ve only owned one once when I was a teenager. This was one of my favorites at the All American Horse Classic show.

This past Friday I attended the All American Horse Classic. I specifically went to see the Hackney pony competitions, but also enjoyed seeing the Dutch Harness horses and the three gaited Standardbreds.

My Hackney pony Hector with Stephen, his trainer. Hector has been trained by pulling a pallet over gravel & grass, then pulling a small wooden wagon. Today was first day to be harnessed to my road cart. Progress is being made!

My trainer, Stephen, is such a kind man. Today he attached the slow moving vehicle triangle to my cart for me and hooked Hector up to it for the first time. Stephen is very patient and calm and has a methodical training process. He will shoe Hector and start taking his training out on the roads.

Work on the barn continues. When I bought my farm, I was told an old red barn stood where the metal pole barn is. Years ago I installed two horse stalls and am now finishing cladding the walls with plank wainscot to give it some warmth and a more traditional barn feel. Maybe I’ll add a loft one day?

Went to visit Hector today. His training is going well and he has been harnessed to a small wagon and taken out on the road twice. His trainer says he is doing surprisingly well, given his training began at eight years of age. It will definitely be nice to have him back home again.

Almost Fall, and I’m thinking about soups ! I made one with shredded chicken thighs, chicken broth, black & white beans in chili sauce, brown rice, green hatch chiles, onion, yellow squash, and cumin. Garnished with a dollop of sour cream and some avocado, and paired with a slightly sweetened tea.

I have seen many video clips & photos of Dolly in the past few days. Many I had not seen before . Photo shoots by David Chapelle, Annie Liebowitz, and Andy Warhol, among others. She was definitely beautiful on the inside, but what a classic and stunning beauty physically. Wow.

This old cupboard was given to me. It had six coats of paint. I was able to strip the coat of lavender paint and reveal the barn red with some of the green and white underneath. I found a perfect match to paint the sides & do touch-ups.The shelves’ paint peeled off to reveal an old barn wood look.

You would think that these hummingbirds expend more energy squabbling over the feeder than just sharing it. I always think of them being in perpetual motion, but we see them fly into the pines to perch and rest there or on top of a fence.

I bought Hector a new driving harness. My Amish trainer suggested I go with a Biothane material. Made with a polyester webbing coated with a PVC or TPU material, it’s stronger than leather, waterproof, easy to clean, & flexible in freezing temperatures. Gloss black & minimal, I think it looks great!
