That wall of smoke is headed west. It will cover Seattle and much of the coastal Pacific Northwest for three days while temperatures rise into the 90s. It means suffering for those without A/C, air purifiers, masks, or housing. This is our first climate disaster of the year. Will it be the last?

In Eastern and Indigenous traditions, the world is not linear but circular. It is paradoxical, not logical. Light emerges from darkness. From within the void, new life is born. The dark is not evil — it is generative.

Salvation doesn’t come from a thing but from no-thingness. You move through the nothingness. You keep going until the world transforms before your eyes — while remaining unchanged.

You don’t get stuck in the Western "dark night of the soul." Because in these deeper traditions, hell is never the end.

I hung the Canadian flag on my house in Seattle to signal which side I’m on. There are at least two horrible ironies: 1) Canada is a European settler state, like the U.S., and, 2) it really should be a Palestinian flag, but I’m not that brave. How long before I’m called a “traitor”?

When you realize that the ice caps are temporary, it changes your perspective as much as learning the Earth travels around the Sun. With a clear scientific view, we can better understand Mother Earth. She made for us a beautiful home which we, for reasons terrible and mysterious, have despoiled.

For a wider context, note that ice in Antarctica froze only 30 million years ago. Before that, and for most of Earth's history, there has been no ice at the poles. For 100 million years the Earth has cooled. Now, we're headed back to a hot Earth because we triggered the cycle. Sources in alt-text.

The 'Intolerance' label was applied by the Bluesky Moderation service. @moderation.bsky.app It says: "Intolerance: Discrimination against protected groups." This implies that Israel is "protected" on Bluesky. Why would that be? Who made that decision? Can we hear from the company on this?
