Decided not to return early to participate in another protest against the removal of Toronto’s bike lanes. Leaving urban design heaven to return to Toronto’s hellish forced choice was not for me. I will stay in the bliss for now.

Spending a week in Barcelona for a course, this is a truly livable city. Sidewalks wide and walkable with space for patios and street life. There is ample safe space for cyclists, exceptional transit options, a well connected subway, and so many car-free streets and public Plazas

This video expresses why I feel so done with #Toronto. Of course it’s more problematic in large cities, especially those that pander to car drivers. The noise and chaos caused by too much traffic and bloated cars.The subsequent road rage. Yet somehow in Toronto, the blame is placed upon bicycles.

I recognize that many people had toxic experiences on the old Twitter. Somehow, that was not my experience at all. I had a fabulous experience on the platform before X. I could find out current events,, whether that shaking was actually an earthquake, and when the storms would hit.

The streets with bike lanes are calm, quiet, safe and enjoyable. I'm also a driver but I recognize that everyone deserves safety outside of cars. While I might want to laugh, generally when I see them careening down the road I’m concerned for vulnerable road users. It is too easy to lose control of large heavy vehicles when drivers are neither particularly skilled nor paying close attention.

There are two different ways to write my address. Each address, which are both at the same location, received a census card. One short form one long form. I did both this year. 👌😁 I was originally just going to do the first one which was the short form, but I kept getting warnings. So I did the 2nd.

When politicians enable this behavior by changing laws to disadvantage or blame cyclists this worsens. When the #Ford brothers denounced or blamed #cyclists in #Ontario, I would be threatened by car drivers while riding even in walkable communities. So I would take my car or motorcycle instead. 👌

This has been on the radar for decades among ecologists. It’s happening faster than evolutionarily possible and the growing medium can’t necessarily keep up. I think of the rocky substrate that allows gnarly conifers to get a foot hold, but doesn’t have the fungal soil network for deciduous trees.

Interesting bit of Toronto weather today . Ferocious dark clouds blew in with hail and torrential rain; the sky was green to the northwest. Some sort of wild wind event regardless. Somebody described a wicker lawn sofa falling straight out of the sky. Branches down. Streetcar and roads flooded..

What a surprise that most of the trips are in places where it is safe to ride as a result of protected bike lanes. It’s dangerous out there, even for those of us skilled at navigating roads in traffic. Car bloat, and distracted driving combined with the entitlement generated by #Ford. #deadly
