Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 25/09/2026That is hollynuinely something that needs to catch on 021
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I of course have a boatload of other games that have had some effect in shaping either my relationship with the medium, or in putting me in places that shape who I am as a person, but those are the big ones. None others come close. Games are good. 010
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I was active with Disco for about 4 years in total, but between Freelancer further deepening my love of the medium of video games, and my role with Disco being defining for the way I act in and lead communities, its impacts still resonate into my life today. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026My activity and investment in the community also led me to becoming a moderator, then an administrator. Being a community administrator for an active, diverse, and passionate group of players gives you new perspective. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I played every kind of character eventually. And when you're bad with precision guns, you go for big torp bombers and suicide missions and that becomes its own character in a way too. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I was very active in the community (mind I was still hunting for a home after the NSider forums closed in 2017), having fallen in with a group of Zoners focused on non-combat trading activities and roleplay. I was always shit with dogfighting and my aim is historically, comically bad in shooters. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026There was (is) a forum dedicated to coordination of storytelling and other discussion. We had Skype chats and voice calls to coordinate activities. I made friends here that I still have today, that I've seen in-person, that I went to conventions with. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026Disco was my first experience with character RP in this context - everything in-game was required to be character-focused interactions. It was the first time I really got to do this sort of structured play. It also allowed me to explore parts of myself that I couldn't elsewhere. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026In 2010 I was craving more Freelancer, and started seeking out some new experiences. Maybe other people online had a love for this game like I did? Oh you betcha. There was (and still is!) a thriving mod scene, and I decided to join DiscoveryGC since it was active. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026Freelancer was my first experience with that kind of open-world sandbox. I continued to play it on-and-off for a while, playing through the campaign a few times, and just having it be my chill-out time. But that's only part of the impact it had on my life. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I was so engrossed into the detail, I would spend hours after the main story just cruising around systems, filling out my minimap, reading infocards, and learning the lore. The game felt like such a sandbox, and it was really good at turning you loose and letting you do things your own way. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026Freelancer caught me so totally in just its demo, which is Mission 1 and then a never-ending free-roam in the New York system. I explored it *thoroughly* and then asked my Dad if I could buy it. He found it on eBay for $14. It become just about the only thing I played for a solid chunk. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/20262. Freelancer If you know me at all, you probably know that Freelancer is one of my favorite games. Hell I run a fedi instance inspired by my love for it. I first came to it in 2004 after being a bored teen with an internet connection, surfing Microsoft's games websites for demos to download. 110
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026Majora's Mask is probably my earliest experience of considering a game as art, and has since very much shaped my perception of the medium. Was it always fun? No. But it gave me an appreciation for the topics and subjects and burden sometimes that is art, and the messages that's intended to convey. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026I ended up getting the game to own before too much longer, and it remains one of my favorite Zelda experiences. It weaves the stories and crafts a world whose characters seemingly have their own lives even while you're not looking. 100
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/20261. Majora's Mask I think this is the first time a game really gave me an experience that wasn't itself inherently video game-y. I remember renting it from Blockbuster and playing it on a Friday night, and then Saturday morning having to go check the N64 to make sure I didn't dream it up. 110
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 21/09/2026Games have always been a part of my life, there's a photo of me in diapers sitting on the floor next to my dad who was playing Super Mario World. Where I have to go to is two games that had a huge impact on my life. 100

Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 18/09/2026why would i use ai when i could make an original work and learn something along the way 130
Pumpfen Spice Latte @fen.zoner.work · 11/09/2026Yeah, typically for me it's to invoke anyone other than that guy. I like to think that when I use "gods" I'm invoking the Greek pantheon because those fuckers are wild. More often I'll bastardize the phrases by saying "oh my dogs" because I have dogs, or "in the year of our orb" because orb. 130

Or better still, unlearn them. 041
