It's fairly common in McMansions. Bathrooms and kitchens are full of features that can go in listings, and McMansions are built to be listed and sold.

That's my concern as well. There's more to trans life than election outcomes and the resulting policies, and one of my main concerns now is that these ads might influence how people make decisions that affect us (e.g. whether to hire us).

It might well be illegal. Illinois law is very clear on allowable bumper geometry. That said, laws are only effective to the extent that they are enforced.
A screenshot of black text on a white background. It reads:

Maximum bumper heights are as follows:
Maximum Front	Maximum Rear
Bumper height	Bumper Height
All motor vehicles of the first
    division except multipurpose
passenger vehicles:	22 inches	22 inches
Multipurpose passenger vehicles
and all other motor vehicles:
4,500 lbs. and under GVWR	24 inches	26 inches
    4,501 lbs. through 7,500
lbs. GVWR	27 inches	29 inches
    7,501 lbs. through 9,000
lbs. GVWR	28 inches	30 inches
It is unlawful to operate upon any highway of this State any vehicle with a front bumper height that exceeds 28 inches or a rear bumper height that exceeds 30 inches, regardless of the GVWR of the vehicle, except those vehicles covered by Chapter 18b of this Code.
For any vehicle with bumpers or attaching components which have been modified or altered from the original manufacturer's design in order to conform with the maximum bumper requirements of this section, the bumper height shall be measured from a level surface to the bottom of the vehicle frame rail at the most forward and rearward points of the frame rail. The bumper on any vehicle so modified or altered shall be at least 4.5 inches in vertical height and extend no less than the width of the respective wheel tracks outermost distance.

For transit riders: the closest bus stop is at E Palm Ave. and N Central Ave. and is served by Route 5. I'll have to check this place out next time I'm in the area!

Please take care of yourself first and foremost. Your posts here are important to me, but they are not urgent. If you have real-world support (outside of social media), times like right now are what it's for.

Every journal I've checked doesn't accept papers that list non-human authors for that exact reason. In particular, computing models as authors is a no-go.

IMO, the term "AI" is itself part of the problem. I usually say "AI" in reference to the business model, propaganda, and bubble, and "LLM" or similar when I discuss the technology.

TL;DR: the Republicans are getting desperate. However, I'm concerned about effects the ads might have beyond electoral outcomes, e.g. you're interviewing for a job, but the manager's been bombarded with these ads and chooses not to hire you because of imagined potential problems working with you.

It's possible there were some other factors at play that I didn't know about, and there are many more ways your situation might differ from mine. But a boss suddenly becoming a micromanager is always a sign of trouble somewhere.
010
Two-wheel woman @fembikesnsci.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
This happened at my previous job and was ultimately why I left. What I think happened: my boss got in trouble and started micromanaging his team in order to (1) appear useful and essential, (2) prevent anyone from breaking that illusion, and (3) ensure there was someone else to blame for failures.

I think this is because most grocery stores are designed to be liminal spaces, not third places.

Two-wheel woman @fembikesnsci.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I've been using terms like "LLM" and "chatbot" instead of "AI" since these models first became common. That's not going to change.

Lots of NYC problems fixed in one photo. My only gripe is that if the drain grate is square, it needs to be rotated 90 degrees.

Also, to be clear, the Loop and Hyperloop are two different grifts meant to obstruct two different types of rail service.
000
Two-wheel woman @fembikesnsci.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
If both get built, obviously, rail is the better option. The purpose of Teslas in tunnels is to prevent the rail option from ever being built. The Hyperloop has been a grift since the very beginning.

Two-wheel woman @fembikesnsci.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
The true purpose of Tesla-in-tunnel schemes is to obstruct rail. They draw popular support and funding (in this case mostly private funding, this being Texas) away from building the rail network.

Additionally, the other arches are not being openly used for military purposes. A militarized arch would be a very easy target.

There are 4 cities in Texas that (in a less anti-rail political climate) would be a strong candidate for connecting with high-speed rail: Austin, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. Austin and San Antonio is the pair with the shortest distance.

It's worrying that they aren't. There's a very real danger that some Democratic candidates will win only to leave the anti-trans policies in effect (or even worse, escalate them further). If it happened in the UK, it can happen here.

That means the city's biking culture has gotten well ahead of the availability of dedicated bike parking. It seems Frankfurt needs to follow the Dutch example and build it. Lots of bikes is great, but lots of well-utilized bike parking is better.

The ads may not be saving Republicans, but there have been more than a few Democrats going anti-trans partly in response. At this point, I think anti-trans politics escaping the partisan divide is the greater threat.
050
Two-wheel woman @fembikesnsci.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
At this point, I'm more concerned about anti-trans politics spreading across party lines than I am about Republicans possibly remaining in control of Congress.

That's because the city and county consolidated in 1968. Large tracts of rural land are now within city limits. Nonetheless, JTA transit is a joke for a city of its population, even in a US context.

There's also the ways LLMs can be (and are being) used maliciously, e.g. regular people might use them to plan hate crimes and create lists of targets.

We have sample ballots, and we're allowed to mark them and bring them to the polls to transcribe to the official ballots. I usually do this during early voting so that I can be sure that the ballot is counted (i.e. won't be lost/delayed in the mail, which can happen even without malicious actors).

Paris is one of several *cities* that has done a great deal to reduce car harm and is a great positive example for others. But when *countries* tackle road violence, the outcome is different; crucially, suburbs and small rural towns get the car harm reduction (and improved quality of life) as well.

This one goes a step further than most and tries to portray car dealerships as economically vital to LA. Claims that driving-related transactions lead to economic growth, gainful employment, lasting wealth, or a solid tax base have been debunked many times.
Screenshot of text from an article: "devoted to automobile dealerships and enormous sales lots. There is an irony here that City Hall doesn't talk about very much: automobile dealerships are major employers and significant generators of tax revenue for the city. **Nearly 30,000 people work directly at automobile dealerships in the Los Angeles region, and the average new vehicle sold in Los Angeles generates an estimated $4,960 in sales tax.**" (emphasis quoted)

As a trans woman who road cycles it has come to my attention that I'm apparently responsible for the behaviour of all trans women, trans people in general, every single person who rides a bicycle, and at least situationally, all women. This is, to say the least, some bullshit.

There are established markings for US speed bumps as well:

The word "motonormativity" first appeared in a research paper (coauthored by @ianwalker.bsky.social) and is definitely appropriate for research papers. There is likely no one universally correct term for laypeople because different people see the problem differently.

I hope I didn't come across as downplaying/dismissive. Summer heat waves present major danger for millions of people on the Gulf Coast, which is plagued by widespread poverty, poor public health, and lax labor laws. My point is: take this seriously, but don't panic as though no one can survive.

Those are typical conditions for a Deep South / Gulf Coast hot summer day. With shade and rest, most people will be uncomfortable but healthy. Outdoor work in the sun and/or complicating health conditions means higher risk.

It's loss aversion at play. If all one knows is driving, any place one can't drive to seems like somewhere one can't go to at all.

That's one reason that "run" may not be a viable response to being threatened by fascism. If not defeated, fascism will spread everywhere, and there will be nowhere left to go.
