Somewhere along the way, we seem to have forgotten that the mark of a great healthcare system is a very high outcome/cost ratio. Since health care in this country is for-profit, that ratio has been inverted. This is not just wrong, it's immoral.

It's caused my wife and I to make our own coffee drinks instead of buying them. I'm learning how to be my own barista. 😏

I've been waiting for this show all season. Tidal reef net fishing! Forest-embedded agriculture! SO much knowledge...

A very large number of Seattlites (the damp kind, not the orbitals) have despised Starbucks (and Howard Schultz) since the Sonics fiasco. There's a major boycott going on right now. We have LOTS of other choices...

I think you might be surprised how many Boomers and Joneses (and even Gen Xers) live exclusively online nowadays. Some of us built this technology and have been digital natives since the 1980s.

Not nearly as nice at high tide on a "normal" Winter day, but beggars can't be choosers. You live in a very scenic town.
The Three Graces - normal, Fall-weather-gray.

I have great respect for our people in uniform - my dad was one (SSgt. Sam Felton, US Army Air Force, 1941-45 Pacific Theatre). I'm actually thankful he's not alive to see this; it would make him so angry it would probably kill him.

My family passes Barview (on the way to Gleneden, from Seattle) twice yearly. Gleneden is our go-to coastal escape. Never been there at sunset, though - fresh perspective!

Hells, yeah. In a couple of weeks, we're going to Canada just to escape the US mainland for a while. Vancouver Island and the Gulfs are just... so nice at this time of year.

Ms. Parton was one of the four devout Christians that I’ve ever met, whose behavior I would say was actually Christ-like. They asked themselves, “What would Jesus do?”, and then would actually go and do it. As she passes, a little bit of light has left the world. RIP Ms. Parton. You are missed.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on how NVidia might go about policing a market over which it has zero control. It's long been a subject of discussion amongst our customers - how can we prevent our technology from being resold to our enemies?

Hi, neighbor (WA State resident, here). Sorry that our president is such an ass. Otherwise, we'd invite you down for tea. Enjoy the beautiful summer!

Yeah. And even with that, the USMT got their *sses handed to them by Belgium. My biggest complaint with all this is, as a result, now *EVERYONE* knows how awesome Seattle is (especially in the summer). Lesser Seattle, Inc. - Fight Tourism! /s

These creatures are highly social and way too smart to be kept in a jail. I see this as similar to keeping elephants in a zoo. Surprise, humans in captivity usually don't thrive either.

Occaisionally, the Quora-verse unfolds as it should...
... That China is taking the lead in this field now to him isn’t a negative
consequence. It’s yet another sign that he is the smartest person on the planet, because in his mind the Chinese are embracing failed technologies. That he will soon be proved wrong about that is irrelevant. He can’t be educated, and he doesn’t read. He knows what Fox News tells him, and the sycophantic cretins in his administration (so-called) are personally benefiting from whatever economic policy decisions he dictates.

That’s it. He “knows” what he wants to believe, and he is incapable of going beyond that. He is a moron, and so are the denizens of the MAGAt kingdom who voted for him, and who put so much trust in him. The oligarchs he surrounds himself with today are not morons, but they benefit from his policies, so they are happy to play along. They don’t care that they are, through Trump’s dictatorial pronouncements and ignorance, making China great again at the expense of the United States, because they themselves are not invested in America per se. They are oligarchs. They are invested only in their own wealth and status. As long as they are worth billions, none of them care what state they leave the country in.

Billionaires can live anywhere.

How peculiar, that they represent a party whose idiot voters call themselves “patriots”.

Dr. Goodall's well-broadcast science was very educational to me as a child. It's one of the reasons I am a STEM grad. The planet misses you, Dr. G. Thank you for your contributions to mankind.

PS - interesting how they transliterate “Tim Horton's" as "天好" (tian hao) - "Good Weather." I really enjoy how Chinese language speakers transliterate foreign words and names. It's always entertaining.

Nordic Europe has doubled-down on renewable energies (such as geothermal and low-head hydro). They also are big into offshore wind. This has led to a general lowering of energy costs and resulting decrease in reliance on fossil fuels like natural gas. Seeing this, the graph is not surprising.

Yeah, I feel you. In our case it's coal addiction, which is possibly worse. BC seems to be doing OK with hydro power and EVs. Last time I was in Vancouver (for the auto show), it was the most EVs I've seen outside of China. Fortunate enough to live in WA State, so we have beaucoups hydro also.

The West would also move faster if huge fossil-fuel conglomerates didn't run our governments. How about that?

When the cult leader is a malignant narcissist, it enables mag-nar cultists. No surprise. Honestly, I harbor no ill-will towards the cultists, any more than I did the Jonestownies or Branch-Davidians. It's the mainstream GOP, who misplaced their spines, that I have difficulty forgiving.

Yeah, tell me about it. 1/2 my family are Chinese, some living in China but mostly Diasporans. In total, spent about 1/4 of my life in China or Diaspora. China has made a serious commitment to EV/EREV technology, which will change China's environment. Meanwhile, the US goes backwards. Just great.

Thank you; I was born and raised in Seattle and, although I've lived and worked in other parts of the world, I have always returned. Spent my youth helping my dad with his research, which exposed me to several different Native/First Nations communities. Feels like Raven and Orca are my brothers.

Non-native ally, here. I'd like to also point out the contributions to biology (especially aquaculture and fisheries) made by Native scientists, like the folks my dad used to work with (Chalá·at and Quinault) in Washington State. Very wise people, helped us learn a lot about saving our salmon runs.

Had Timbits in Shanghai, China last December. I don't usually visit foreign chain restaurants in China, but somehow, I could not resist the opportunity.

Used to catch Kokanee and Cutthroat trout here with my dad, in the 1960s. It is a beautiful place - thanks for the nostalgic moment.
