Mountaineer, Fellwanderer, Runner, Naturist, Photographer, sometimes all at the same time. My interest here is mostly to engage with others, especially those who appreciate the singular beauty of the human body particularly in the outdoor environment.

That trip and a few after. The memories lasted longer than the relationship 😀

I was leafing through some old photo albums recently when I came across these. First trip to Greece, 25 years ago, with my then girlfriend who I was hoping to introduce to #naturism I didn’t succeed but the holiday was fun anyway and I got to go #skinnydipping.

I think it’s more telling of social media than of naturism.

It's not Scottish, more northern England, especially the Lake District. It derives from old Norse. The Scottish equivalent would be Lochan.

That is the problem isn't it. The vast majority behave sensibly and responsibly but just an odd one ruins it for everyone else.

I live in a national park and ‘fly campers’ are a regular problem. Mostly because they damage trees, light fires and leave behind rubbish, often including their tents. If people behaved more responsibly there would be no need for bans.

Although this article is about 8 years old, it describes 'public nudity was (and is) a prosecutable offence. This is a little misleading because in and of itself nudity, (in England - which the article is about) is not an offence.

So, maybe a rhetorical answer but 'Does it really matter?' What matters to me is not whether there are more people taking part, or more places where it is possible to go naked, but what the general acceptance of social nudity is and in this respect I think progress is definitely being made.

"Research suggests that naturism, the practice of non-sexual social nudity, can help people improve their body image. Naturists and experts tell the BBC how it works" by Molly Gorman. An article I contributed to: www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

'You're fully accepted': Being nude in public can make us feel better about our bodies

Same here. I’ve not been to any beaches this year but passed people on naked hikes in the hills. A friendly Good Morning’ generally gets a polite reply.

Sure, but it’s a rather restrictive definition. If it’s ‘wild’ in the forest, then why not elsewhere?
201
Anthony @fellwanderer.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
Why just forests or woods? I would go further and include any open countryside.

Anthony @fellwanderer.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
Good point, but then does posting endless memes and reposts make you a naturist either? We each have different ways of expressing ourselves.

Not many, it was very quiet. Other times, yes. Most people don’t really mind so long as you are respectful. In the UK this is perfectly legal.

This summer has been really good for naked hiking in the UK mountains. We’ve had plenty of days of settled hot weather which is ideal. Here are a few from my my most recent walk in the Western Lakes. Very quiet, even for August. #naturism #freehiking #lakedistrict #nakedhiking

Whilst they listened to the complaints, it seems they also happily listened to the enthusiasts. A small but important win.

It would seem that someone has a great many problems of their own to deal with. How on earth they expect to deal with those by picking on you is beyond reasoning. Besides, what has size got to do with anything?

Of course customer feedback generally comes from those who are happy to voice their opinion on any subject that mildly outrages them. Where ids the feedback from everyone who enjoyed the joke and had a little chuckle? Brink back the streaker!

Dr Victoria Bateman, a Cambridge economist and author, is known for using her naked body for protest. In this episode she talks about the cult of female modesty and how unashamed nudity is a logical step for feminism. Ep. 33 is out Sat. 1st Aug: 🔊 podfollow.com/womeninfocus @vnbateman.bsky.social

There comes a point in life when you stop asking whether you have permission to be yourself. You simply go for a walk. Preferably naked on a beach. #CreatorOfTheTroubleWithRosie #WomenWhoWrite #AgingRebel #BodyAcceptance #BlackAndWhitePhotography #RomyHarel
Black-and-white fine-art photograph of Romy walking barefoot along a quiet beach. She wears mirrored aviator sunglasses and an open white button-down shirt that billows gently in the sea breeze. Smiling softly as she strolls beside the shoreline, she looks relaxed, confident, and completely at ease with herself. The expansive sky, calm ocean, and minimalist composition create a peaceful, timeless atmosphere.

It's not the beach that needs to be free, it's the people using it. Act with confidence, like you own the place and objections just melt away 😉 As you well know.

What glorious weather we've been enjoying in the UK this week, perhaps a little too hot for some. But it has enabled me to get out #naked on the hills three times, plus a #skinnydip. Naked hiking is the only way yo go when it's this hot.

What you say is true, mostly. But these threads are often dictated by the earliest commentators and I have seen posts where lots of people tag their friends and tell them to put their clothes back on with a laughing emoji. There can be humour too. Like here. www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=...
