I don't think we share the same definitions in this case, which is fine! Can still highly recommend Goffman if these themes are interesting to you👌

The working group "Sociology of digital Games" just finished our first ever ad hoc event, "Virtual Community Revisited" at #dgs2026! Extremely proud of how it turned out - both in terms of the presentstions and the attendance! ✨Here's to many more Gaming-related events at DGS! ✨

Biggest downside of my early academia days was that I forced myself to only read literary classics, some of which were quite demanding and dry. Lost my passion for reading during that, but regained a few years back by getting into fantasy again (Sanderson stuff, wheel of time etc)

This Niu Lai movie being so successful in China is just a sign that people would rather watch paint dry than have AI in their movies

A move to a new country and several lifestyle changes have me in a "bingewatching webcam story time videos by 20-40 year olds" phase currently lol

Hyperscalers are what the discourse should be about, but that would require a minimum amount of nuance

010

Felix "InterVR" Krell @felkrell.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

I still stand by the idea that subjecting others to your music taste enthusiastically is just as much part of DJing as reading a crowd is 🤣 sometimes showing 2-3 people that really go crazy for your music some new tunes is more important than pleasing everyone else. Except if your paid of course^^

Many many people have done studies on Social VR, I credit many of them in the book as well :) This book is just a more in depth version that connects many things that were already out there, and combines it way stronger with everyday experiences of long term users 🫡

We really should either define slop properly or stop using it altogether. This makes no damn sense to me

its the best course of action - I haven't been on there since the API stuff a few years back. Many people that were important to keep discussions and subs healthy left back then and the communities that are left now kinda reflect that I feel
