There are still good episodes like Now and Gwen, the Two Hundred, West to Mexico, Mean Francine, Rabbit Ears, 300, and Who Smarted?, but I don't feel attached to show as much as I did during its prime. It has returned to FOX recently, but will the charm from seasons 3-9 return?

I know The Simpsons and Family Guy are easy targets for seasonal rot, but I think American Dad! became a completely different show when it moved to TBS. I didn't mind at first, but sometimes around 2018, I noticed how unpleasant the characters have gotten and the jokes don't land as they used to.

On *some* level I can empathize with having difficulty entirely abandoning Harry Potter. I'm not even gonna lie, the whole "Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are now siblings" thing just kinda makes me feel nothing at this point. Not just because mergers bad and all that obvious stuff, but also because it feels like the equivalent of kings inheriting already starving villages.

If all millennial cartoon creators are bad, then I guess good ones like Pen Ward, JG Quintel, Alex Hirsch, Rebecca Sugar, the Houghton Brothers, Dana Terrace, etc. doesn’t exist. They’re all born after 1980 and they made some of the most iconic cartoons from 2010-present.

I forgot to point this out, but If it wasn’t for these two shows, 2026 would’ve been a lot like 1995 - No new in-house shows premiering on Nick. (Yes I’m aware that neither of those shows aren’t actually airing on the channel, but they’re still Nick shows at the end of the day)

I had a really good time on call with a friend a few weeks back yakking about us both having watched different series of the Mako Mermaids franchise, because they were kinda mediocre tweenage girl fodder, but they had cool practical effects. Also? mermaids! Girly stuff, even "cringe" can be fun.

A behind the scenes shot of Mako Mermaids with one of the actors in the prostethetic tail the cast would wear while swimming. He's sitting on the edge of a pool set styled to look like an old cave grotto. Crew stand around on land while another crew member under the water reaches up with a hand to support the actor as he leans on the pool edge in the prosthetic tail. A note about the tail is how it's noticeably longer than most mermaiding tail prosthetics, which allowed for really incredible looking motion in underwater swimming shots.
