Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 02/07/2026I routinely see kids products that come in the 2 options "Dinosaur" or "Unicorn"- which apart from the obvious, annoys me because one gets science and one gets mythology. This could easily be fixed by swapping dinosaurs with dragons, or, hear me out, aggressively marketing Cambrian sea life to girls 461460334
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 17/06/2026I've never seen the movie Black Swan but every swan I've seen in my life looks like this, so I can only assume it's about a ballet dancer who is completely normal 747840
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 06/06/2026"why does nobody remember this" I say, holding up a DVD of a 2006 live action CatDog movie. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson frown at each other in prosthetics that don't quite resemble a cat or a dog. Their lower bodies are connected by a CG tube. A tiny blue Will Ferrell leers at them from a mouse hole 141146245
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 02/06/2026It's hard being a Cartoon Knower (strictly professional) and a parent, when other parents try to bond over how bewildered they are by childrens media. "My kid's always watching that- what is it- Pikachu show?" Haha no I hadn't heard of it either, for I too was grown in a lab already thirty 862333

Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026I feel like this is often the case, where governments effectively only fund art if it's nationalistic. IMO if a place has a thriving healthy art scene where people make what they want, styles and movements will emerge organically, that will simply become part of the cultural identity anyway 120
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026Sorry I'm not from America, we all do this. Getting mad at statues is a universal part of the human experience. It's even in the Bible 0120
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026This is a cute initiative- and measurably good! How else do you find your friend at the station if not with a message saying "hey I'm at the big mosaic" 0310
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026Like art that can be valued in a Guinness World Record style, "most lines in a drawing" metric achievement, which is ludicrous. I doubt people who view art this way go into bookshops and just say "give me the one that was hardest to write" 2410
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026My other hot take is that valuing art on just effort and technical skill is designed to placate people who are skeptical about the value of art to begin with - and realism and detail happen to be the areas where those are demonstrated most clearly to the layperson and can be measured objectively 1568
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 03/05/2026I always see nonpartisan, righteous anger at public art. Everyone loves to hate a concrete blob bought with taxpayer money, what's it even meant to be etc. My hot take: art funding is good and there's no benign policy for keeping out 'bad' art. You really just gotta fund it until a good one happens 23996165
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 25/03/2026I'm upset that the comedy festival logo is throwing its head all the way back Charlie Brown style, maximum mouth real estate for a great big laugh- but the mouth itself is doing more of a moderate sized smirk 060
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 25/03/2026The giant water towers on the site? No that's not to cool down the servers, that's "Footscray proofing" 120
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 22/03/2026I'd like a large scale data visualisation of which different 'creatives' hang out. Do painters and clowns go to the same parties? As an animator I cross paths with game devs and puppeteers, but do they know each other? And most importantly why do I have so many mutual friends with improv comedians 1530613
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 16/03/2026I know exactly how many cats are in my house. I keep it at a consistent value. Moths and spiders, no idea. Mystery number. They come and go through little doors I don't even know about 6916160
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Aside from the obvious, what's really dumb about the word "content", is that "contents" only exist in relation to a container- so in this context, a literal web container, on a page. Div fillers. Sure mate, your rectangle is the star of the show. What's wrong you haven't eaten your plate toppers 435239
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 10/03/2026A perk I offer on Patreon is to send an ink drawing to 25 ppl monthly, so these frames are those! Loose freestyling on a lightbox is super fun and I'd like to do that, but these have a bunch of incredibly specific considerations since each frame is being sold to someone. These are my side hustle! 1140
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 10/03/2026I don't! I rigorously plan these, and use a top-down camera rig connected to a computer with Dragonframe, a stop motion software. That way I can see a live-feed of my hands drawing on the screen, that I can overlay with the previous frame, or rulers, guides, rough animation etc. 2321

Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 24/02/2026These are made by @ivandixon.bsky.social, who has been my boss on several cool projects, including the Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L animations and Childish Gambino's Feels Like Summer MV. Doing the sound is considerably easier than animating however. Please keep hiring me to bark like a dog sir 1780
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 23/02/2026Here is episode 2! I did the sound and music for both of these. I should also mention the "sound" largely consists of me barking like a little dog. If you would enjoy hearing me, impersonating a small dog, then hoo boy! Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 17/02/2026Correct! Also where did you see the rakali? I saw a dead one on the riverbank in that same area, but I would like to see an alive one 100
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 17/02/2026I saw this today also! My photos are on a phone and bad, but here is proof. Sometimes there are royal spoonbills there as well, but they are hard to spot because they match the ibises 161
Felix Colgrave @felixcolgrave.bsky.social · 06/02/2026It's not whether WE should be worried- it's Miyazaki's personal view, of a specific piece. Horror usually depicts suffering in some way- what it chooses to say about it varies. If the work is incurious about it, that's not a moral indictment on the artist, but it's a valid thing to critique! 140
