And Vancouver electing more COPE councillors than Greens suggests that Vancouver would have preferred a COPE mayor to Pete Fry (me too!), but the COPE candidate graciously stepped down to avoid vote splitting. Again, the electoral system is a disservice to the city. With a ranked ballot (aka […]

I celebrate the progressive sweep of Vancouver council, but it is wildly undemocratic that ABC + TEAM will get 0-2/10 councillors, given the number of people who voted for those parties. Just as it was undemocratic that ABC had so many councillors last time. We have the dumbest ever electoral […]

@jonathankoren @fortyseven @DS90210 Yeah so let's say hearing it is necessary for language development. If the coos truly are language independent then the UT can just pass them through. But if they do depend on language, and the baby does need consistency, then the UT needs to translate from […]

@jonathankoren @fortyseven @DS90210 UTs have an output language, right? So if a baby grows up in a cacopholingual environment, it would need a UT from infancy, set to translate into one/two languages of the parents' choice? But the really interesting question becomes translating incoming […]

@Anibyl Or would it push land prices down, since all developers now need to lower their costs? Isn't a lot of current land valued mainly based on development potential? Boomers haven't been tempted out of their SFH even when millions are dangled in front of them, so supply seems price inelastic.

@dmarti Is that the right maths? They need all those words so that a "1" is unlikely to arise by chance in human-written text. If they want only (say) 1/256 human docs to be falsely watermarked by chance, then don't they need 8 bits? So they'd use 8 bits/200 words for "is it watermarked", and […]
