just fulfilled my long-time dream of automatically putting together a playlist of 125–135 BPM high-energy songs in ascending tempo order based on my Spotify listening history!

this is very high level but helped me a ton and I got a toy example working! I've been wanting to do one of these without relying on D3/Mapbox/etc for ages. thank you so much!

got the "Stream on Spotify" integration working. out of the 1055 albums in my library, MusicBrainz had a Spotify link for at least one release in a release group for 423 of them. not bad

I’ll engage with your pedantry and quote Robert Bringhurst
a page of the book The Elements of Typographic Style. its text reads “If notes are used for subordinate details, it is right that they be set in a smaller size than the main text. But the academic habit of relegating notes to the foot of the page or the end of the book is a mirror of Victoria social and domestic practice, in which the kitchen was kept out of sight and the servants were kept below stairs. If the notes are permitted to move around in the margins (as they were in Renaissance books) they can be present where needed and at the same time enrich the life of the page.

Footnotes are the very emblem of fussiness, but they have their uses. If there are short and infrequent, they can be made economical of space, easy to find when wanted and, when not wanted, easy to ignore. Long footnotes are inevitably a distraction: tedious to read and wearying to look at. Footnotes that extend to a second page (as some long footnotes are bound to do) are an abject failure of design.

Endnotes can be just as economical of space, less trouble to design and less expensive to set, and they can comfortably run to any length. They also leave the text page clean except for a peppering of superscripts. They do, however, require the serious reader to use two bookmarks and to read with both hands as well as both eyes, swapping back and forth between the popular and the persnickety parts of the text.

Sidenotes give more life and variety to the page and are the easiest of all to find and read. If carefully designed, they need not enlarge either the page or the cost of printing it.”

DuckDB is very cool tech. I ingested my last.fm music listening history into a small table, “attached” a MusicBrainz Postgres database and can do JOINs between them!!!

I wrote a tiny Raycast extension this year that's a thin wrapper for a Thesaurus website I like. somehow it's got 0xFF downloads? nice. www.raycast.com/FelipeCortez...

I added this to my reading list after reading the UML chapter in Masterminds of Programming. good stuff. they managed to get all three creators for the interview, lots of insightful questions and answers

besides the timer, what else do you find more useful about it? the clock app in macOS got a recent update that lets you keep multiple running timers and the closest to completion is shown in the menu bar. I've been using this for pomodoros though: github.com/michaelvilla...

I missed having a proper organized digital music library ever since switching to Spotify for music listening, so I created a lil web app that stores only album covers + artist country metadata for filtering. haven't spent much more than a minute picking something to listen to after coming up with it
