She honestly looks awesome, including her description - I'm reminded of the Dalsbruk iron/steel mill at the Finnish west coast which operated in various capacities for over 300 years from the late 17th century all the way to 2012 when it permanently shut down in a bankruptcy.

I would think I was dreaming if I ran into someone like that IRL, since all forms of Flat Earthism are just so crazy, nevermind the general lack of even elementary school education in what comes to physics.

IMO, one of the downsides created by social media and increased awareness about victim blaming etc. is how it has created a requirement to immediately condemn people based on accusations lest you be ignoring or blaming the victim, with refusal to do so being seen as siding with the potential perp.

I can understand, my mother has a pool in her house and we used to chlorinate it for a long time by scooping up powdered chlorine from a container, I always knew very well not to breathe in while doing it since it would leave traces of chlorine dust hanging in the air for a bit. Pellets these days.

Admittedly, this is a picture which makes me feel both really bad and really excited, since I *do* know where you're coming from.

To concur with the poster who you're responding to, I surmise it's because they weren't surrounded by other native speakers with poor uneducated grasp of English, but instead learned the rules and structure in a formal school setting which was complemented by complex proofread content at home.

Since ostensibly to them, refusal to obey US (federal) law carries greater issues than refusal to obey EU and French law.

A more nefarious example is how for example France has been moving sensitive data off Microsoft's Azure cloud due to how Microsoft admitted under questioning that they will simply ignore EU and French laws if the US administration asks them to hand over data: cybernews.com/security/fra...

Yeah, ultimately it's one of those matters where companies obey because the consequences for pissing off a (major) entity through deliberate non-compliance would be far more dire for them than pissing off a bunch of consumers who don't always even have a alternative for their service.

I know this pain, I have and have had plenty of old computer gear which is so electricity-hungry that I never really used them. Like this old 72-port 10/100Mbps ethernet backbone switch with a couple of 1Gbps fibre links which I got as part of a haul and dumped away since it's 600 watts idle.
Front photo of a very old and large modular rackmount ethernet switch.

Such a good example of how little worth originally very expensive special devices can have once their time has passed! Including how they usually become way too power-inefficient to use even for basic tasks.

Given the history of your zedconians, I can understand this attitude - robbed of the ability to manufacture more of their kind, bodies which are superior to human but do not heal or maintain themselves like biological creatures do, reliant on a "food source" which requires more work than food, etc.

It's pretty much the cornerstone of many idiotic conspiracy theories such as the 9/11 ""Truthers"", Moon landing deniers, etc., the idea that you have hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of people from all walks holding the line for a purported cover-up and nobody ever squeals or wavers.

And I can understand the cheeky saying because an older cousin of mine used to drive a Moskvitch Elite as a daily driver, and he claimed that one needed to do a complete engine overhaul every 60 000 km or so, so he always had a spare engine in storage.

Ota velka, osta Volga - velka kestää kauemmin kuin Volga. :p But yes, old Soviet cars are real curiosities these days, apart from the GAZ Ladas since I still see them in traffic even in what comes to 40+ year old models. xP

This wouldn't have been an issue if the organization bought a $1,000 NAS and populated it with a few hard drives.

She sussed out Trace as the Grand Templar immediately in the comic too, yes. :p Though he was a horrible actor and an ever worse liar.

In a way this reminds me of the real-life situation of (larger) animals not being afraid of humans if they've had little to no interaction with them, since the Human Empire as a whole is much more of a predator than the poor lynxes. ^^;

It's still insane to think that we're receiving photographs and video footage from another planet, even if this isn't entirely new since it was already being done several decades ago but the amount and quality today are completely different.

I agree, since it's superficially similar to Earth in an uncanny manner but at the same time it's hauntingly desolate due to the complete lack of any life or artificial structures.

Now I wonder if this is "just" a mental projection within current Trace's mind, or if dark Trace is making use of the manor's magitek with Rose being absent (as she went to bed) to project himself to the material world from the mind of current Trace.
010
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Same, dark Trace has currently lost everything, including being harshly and deservedly dressed down by Saria before his plan to resurrect her failed for good. He truly did love her so it must have forced a reflection... and while he doesn't respect the Keidran, he knows his current self loves Flora.

Also IMO you can't exactly start a war which involves a heavy naval component and then think it's rational to claim how an operational warship of yours in the theatre is "not a threat" and should thus not be targeted by your opponent.

I don't recall people attacking the Vietnamese for killing plenty of American conscripts during the Vietnam War, the anger is always directed at the US for conscripting soldiers for a war of aggression. Avoiding killing conscripts would be a completely insane loophole which nobody would follow.

I'm thinking that evil Trace just doesn't like it when Trace's current self makes a dumbass out of himself. :p Since he *was* highly intelligent, charismatic and shrewd enough to take over the entire Templar organization back in the day.

I wonder if the new and old Trace will eventually end up having a sort of reconciliation akin to Natani and Youngtani...
060
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Same thought here! Despite the old Trace canonically loathing the Keidran and not accepting the new lifestyle, it felt Flora didn't deserve to be thoughtlessly put down (again) like so. After all the old Trace *did* successfully get together with Saria and convinced Rose to serve himself willingly.

Yep, TADC didn't exactly pull any "you should come up with your own explanation" moves which are frustratingly common these days, it was rather explicit about what was going on and why even if it didn't clarify every single detail. But understanding subtext and allegory are part of media literacy...

And yep, we literally didn't have diagnostic criteria or even words for many diseases and physical/mental issues, sufferers would just (eventually) die and that was it. Or they might be lynched/executed in case of mental illnesses if they weren't cast out or locked up while jotted down as bad people

These stupid "gotcha" lists always anger me so much, yep. Because yes, all of that is "true" to various extents (or not) but the lack of standards and modern medical care meant that humans died in droves or were permanently horrifically crippled, world population was a fraction of what it is today.

Showing how seemingly easy it is to create a largely fictional religious myth around someone regardless of the truth with similar methods over time.
010
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
True, though I think that even the earliest parts of NT are considered to be somewhat older and they aren't first-hand sources either - but I mostly meant that Joseph Smith lived in the 19th century US while Jesus' life is 2000 years in the past to us with no other major accounts than in the Bible.

Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
So once you have thousands of years of church mythology between you and a biblical figure, it's no wonder you can't know if they even existed at all or what they truly did, if anything, in case there's a reason to believe in their existence.
110
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
I've always thought of parallels to Jesus and other ancient biblical figures in what comes to him, since he freaking lived in the 19th century and we have genuine first hand historical accounts of him, yet the LDS church successfully maintains a mythologized image of him and his deeds.

And since there's no option to see what GPU it's using in dual-GPU systems, or make choices in settings beyond a nebulous choice of using HW acceleration "if available", I had to force the issue in two different ways in Windows *and* use GPU-Z to see that it was actually putting load on the Quadro.

It annoys me how opaque software has become, since I just realized why YouTube was playing so poorly and lagging out the browser in my older but fully optioned Zbook which was used as a CAD workstation, the browsed had decided that it was only going to use the integrated GPU instead of the Quadro.

Thank you for reaffirming that I read Caine's last words correctly, I kept wondering if it was mere dread but it felt more like a sudden painful realization of how the players weren't tormenting him for fun, they were desperately trying to make him stop tormenting them with a drastic plan.

I thought of this many times in the past few years - without thinking of the power consumption issues, NPCs in games with restricted and partially scripted LLM-powered dialogue could be fascinating, however you'd basically have to couple it with (AI) speech synthesis and cut off voice actors.
011
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 07/03/2026
It's an even worse argument when we already have scientific studies showing how AI use atrophies thinking and skills because you're literally offloading the effort onto a computer, which means your brain isn't benefiting from the exercize and gradually loses ability to perform it.

He was stupid and walked the entire US into a similar trap as what Putin did in Ukraine over four years ago, where he either walks away immediately while looking weak and stupid amid the huge fallout or he has to (massively) escalate it into a long arduous conflict which in the US will be unpopular.

Same here, I'm an occasional writer who commissions art, and I've had people enthusiastically comment on 10+ year old submissions on FurAffinity. This would NEVER happen on a site which solely relies on infinitely scrollable timelines because there's no-one with the patience to deal with that.

I agree with this SO MUCH. Although I've been told by an artist or two back in the day that they felt there wasn't enough interaction on gallery sites, the way infinity scroll became a must have and the only choice even for sites like Patreon where a gallery would have made more sense, is cancerous.

What I meant is that IMO "ace" is technically the wrong label if one starts splitting hairs, but it comes from how people tend to consider desire for sex to be the only determining factor in being a sexual person, and I veered into how this meshes poorly with people who are sexual but not into sex.
000
Feligris @feligris.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
And they also need to know that their partner is enjoying it or getting something out of it, to the point where I've gotten to learn from others that cis men can be incredibly sensitive to the idea of not being able to satisfy their partner with sex.
